He’s your perfect date. You’re his next victim.
When the tortured body of a young woman is found in a dumpster, her eyes swollen shut and her clothes soaked with blood, Detective Erika Foster is one of the first at the crime scene. The trouble is, this time, it’s not her case.

While she fights to secure her place on the investigation team, Erika can’t help but get involved and quickly finds a link to the unsolved murder of a woman four months earlier. Dumped in a similar location, both women have identical wounds – a fatal incision to their femoral artery.

Stalking his victims online, the killer is preying on young pretty women using a fake identity. How will Erika catch a murderer who doesn’t seem to exist?

Then another girl is abducted while waiting for a date. Erika and her team must get to her before she becomes another dead victim, and, come face to face with a terrifyingly sadistic individual.

Gripping, tense and impossible to put down, Last Breath will have you on the edge of your seat, racing to the final dramatic page.

Last Breath is the fourth book in the Detective Erika Foster series by British author, Robert Bryndza. Erika’s still working on the Projects team (and hating it) when she accompanies her sometime lover, Detective James Peterson to a crime scene: the badly mutilated body of a young woman found in a dumpster. Unable to remain uninvolved, she insinuates herself into the case, and discovers similarities to an unsolved murder from some months earlier. But before the team gets very far at all, another young woman is taken, and the race is on to save her. Once again, Bryndza gives the reader a gripping page-turner with a believable plot that races to a heart-stopping climax. He throws in a few red herrings: the first is fairly obvious, but the second is likely to fool most readers. Early on, Erika tells a colleague “I’m so stubborn and blunt with so many people. Maybe it’s time to change” but the reader soon realises that she still finds it hard to pull any punches and freely admits “I don’t endear myself to top brass, do I?” Social media profiles and CCTV feature highly in this instalment, and Bryndza clearly demonstrates the potential dangers of the former and the utter necessity to crime solving of the latter. This is another brilliant piece of British crime fiction and fans will look forward to Erika’s fifth outing, Cold Blood.

Wow!! Every Robert Bryndza book I’ve read, I’ve absolutely loved, and this story is no exception. It’s not just that the characters are great, and the plot is amazing. It’s the fact that he spends the time on characters’ personal lives, which really make his stories so interesting. The other thing I like is Roberts’s ability as an Author to pull you into the story, so that nothing else exists when you’re reading one of his books. Once Erika see’s the state of the brutally murdered girl, she knows she has to do everything she can to get back into the murder investigation team. Sitting behind a desk filling in reports is never going to be her thing, and when she finds a possible link, she’s not likely to take no from her superiors in helping out. The killer is definitely not going to make it easy for the police, and he truly thinks he’s smarter than anyone else. With his extensive planning and execution, he’s been taking his victims with relative ease. The Police Hierarchy and the press certainly aren’t going to help in making Erika’s job any easier. Hands down this is a brilliant story, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This is the 4th book in this series .. and each book has gotten better and better. Do yourself a favor and read the entire series in order. You will not be sorry. Detective Erika Foster has been removed from the Murder Investigation Team and she is not happy! She's edgy and sometimes rude, and sometimes not a team player ... which is why she has relegated to doing paperwork. A body of a young woman is found in a dumpster. She's been badly beaten, lacerated in multiple places. Her clothes are soaked in blood. She did not die peacefully. Foster happens to be one of the first to the crime scene .. but it isn't her case and she's not allowed to investigate. However, Foster does not do what she's told. She finds a case from a few months earlier. The victim is another young woman, her body in the same condition, and found in a dumpster. Foster finagles her way into the cases when another young woman is missing. The common denominator - all the victims have long dark hair. They all died because of a slice of the femoral artery. And they have all been out to meet with a man she met on the internet. The action is non-stop, and although the killer is revealed in the first half of the book, nothing diminishes this crime thriller. I like the characters - they are solidly written with a nice balance of work and personal. 5 Stars for the book ..... 5 Stars for the series Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of Last Breath.
