When he approaches her at the market, he has no idea the next three weeks of his life would change him forever.
It’s the late 1980s, summertime, on the North Shore of Long Island. The air stirs with possibilities as it often does during this time of year. And so begins the romance between one Hispanic seventeen-year-old male, on the verge of manhood and ready to conquer the world, and one beautiful and intelligent young woman named B.
It is much more than romance, though. B will forever become a part of this young man’s soul. He will never forget her.
This is a coming-of-age story, a love story, replete with milestones, tangled emotions, and adventures that are the embodiments of first love. Not just for the young, but for the young at heart.

This book made me cry - in a good way - which hasn't happened in a long time. It's a beautiful story about two seventeen-year-olds who attend the same school but didn't really know each other until they met in a store during the summer. The author takes the reader on a journey as their friendship develops over a fun-filled summer and eventually blossoms into an all-consuming love. The characters are all so well developed and memorable I felt like I really knew them - they certainly became my friends – and I missed them when I finished the book. Aside from a tender romance, you’ll find adventure, humor, jealousy, tragedy, and hope in this poignant coming-of-age love story that will touch your heart . . . and the raw emotion is sure to leave you a changed person.
Last Exit to Montauk is a romance fiction. It’s about two people who meet and how their relationship affects each other. The love story is set in the long island during the 1980’s. With that, comes everything we used to love from the 80’s and the author does a splendid job reminding us of it. The two love characters in particular B, was drawn beautifully. Her personality, demeanor, and touch was created in such a delicate and loveable way. The author portrayed an authentic approach to love and connection between two beings rather than taking the Hollywood, “all is well” attitude. For that reason, the book became special and made it worth reading. What I most admired and enjoyed reading about this book was the feelings it provoked within me about love and how a true love story should make you feel. It reminds you of your first love and everything you felt back then. The literature is well written, and the work is nicely edited. There is a soft pace to the story, and the lyrical descriptive nature of the book is very appealing. I recommend this book to all romance readers.

With a newly bought car from his “Ma” and summer camp over, the seventeen-year-old Hispanic boy could have a lot of fun. Yes, he feels like he could conquer the world. Along the North Shore of Long Island, a dramatic encounter with B, a very popular girl in school, will set him on the romantic ride of a lifetime. Read on to discover the sensations, the turmoil that goes on in a young man’s heart when he first falls in love. But how long can this romance last? The story is told in the first person narrative, in a language that beautifully captures the youthful spirit of the protagonist and a setting that is colorful and well-developed. Set in Long Island in the 1980s, the story is told in an absorbing style, with beautiful prose and engaging dialogues. Some of the descriptions are terrific. For instance, the narrator describes B in the following words: “She smelled like summer, sunshine, and citrus.” The powerful use of imagery and the descriptive prose allow the reader to get the perfect idea of what takes place in the story. Here is another beautiful example that communicates how smitten the young man feels when he meets B: “There she was — the catalyst for my memory. I hadn't thought about her in years, but there she stood. It was her honey-colored hair and the way it flowed down past her shoulders that first caught my attention.” Last Exit to Montauk is a story that will delight young adult readers and those who still recall the magic of their first love. Phillip Vega’s characters are memorable and the story is as exciting as it is entertaining.
