Overview

A kiss is just the beginning…

Pinterest Perfect. Or so Annie Carson's life appears on her popular blog. Reality is ... messier. Especially when it lands her back in one-cow town Brightwater, California, and back in the path of the gorgeous six-foot-four reason she left. Sawyer Kane may fill out those Wranglers, but she won't be distracted from her task. Annie just needs the summer to spruce up and sell her family's farm so she and her young son can start a new life in the big city. Simple, easy, perfect.

Sawyer has always regretted letting the first girl he loved slip away. He won't make the same mistake twice, but can he convince beautiful, wary Annie to trust her heart again when she's been given every reason not to? And as a single kiss turns to so much more, can Annie give up her idea of perfect for a forever that's blissfully real?

About the Author

After studying at the University of Montana-Missoula, Lia Riley scoured the world armed only with a backpack, overconfidence and a terrible sense of direction. Quirky characters and a strong man made this a book worth readingl

LAST FIRST KISS is the first installment in Lia Riley’s contemporary, adult BRIGHTWATER romance series focusing on the small town of Brightwater, California. This is sheriff Sawyer Kane, and single mom/blogger Annie Carson’s story line-a second chance romance for two people who have never stopped loving one another. Told from dual third person perspectives (Sawyer and Annie) LAST FIRST KISS follows Annie Carson’s return to Brightwater, California following ten years away from a town whose history focuses on the feud between the Carsons and the Kanes. For close to two hundred years the Carsons and the Kanes has been at ‘war’ over the true ownership of land in Brightwater, California and Grandma Kane considers it her right to continue the feud. With Annie’s return to Brightwater to sell the family homestead to the highest bidder, old wounds are reopened when Annie comes face to face with the only man she has ever loved and the first man to break her heart-Sawyer Kane. What ensues is a rekindling of a relationship between Sawyer and Annie, and the possibility of a future together. LAST FIRST KISS is a story of second chances; of lost loves, mistaken beliefs, and heartbreaking betrayal between two people hurt by neighboring feuds, and overbearing kin. The relationship between Annie and Sawyer is one of regret and lost years, but a relationship that is slowly rebuilding by mending hearts and mending fences. The $ex scenes are impassioned and romantic. We are introduced to Sawyer’s brothers Archer and Wilder, whose own stories are to be found in RIGHT WRONG GUY, and BEST WORST MISTAKE. The world building focuses on small town mentality, family and love. LAST FIRST KISS has moments of humor and fun; romance and laughter; heartbreak and love. The premise is enjoyable and romantic; the characters are animated and real; the romance is a second chance to a happily ever after.

My Thoughts: MY HEART. Seriously. My heart! This book pulled at my heartstrings and gave me heart flutters. I anticipated it being all sweet and cute and everything, but I didn't realize how much. Watching the relationship between Annie and Sawyer develop is nothing short of beautiful. I loved seeing events unfold, how they handled themselves. The setting was perfection, and it added to everything in the best way. It was great to see their love build slowly over time, not just happening in a snap. There's so much charm to the story--not just the romance between Annie and Sawyer, but also the people of the town and Annie's son, Atticus. They all stole my heart! Last First Kiss was such a gorgeous story. I laughed (THE COW), I teared up (Sawyer with Atticus and the puppies), and I fell in love along with them (with each and every kiss). Second chance romances always tug at the heart, and this one was no exception. This is the first book by Lia Riley that I've read and it most certainly will not be the last! Highly recommended! My Rating: Very Good

I have to admit that this story caught my eye with the Pinterest Perfect bit in the blurb. I love my Pinterest boards. They were one of my favorite Social Media sites (up until the whole pay to boost pins has recently started.) They remain my go to sites for crafts, books, jewelry, quotes, jokes and much, much more. Plus, our heroine is a blogger. Booyah! Score one for a character I can totally empathize and connect with. Annie is back in her hometown to fix up the family ranch so that it can be sold and the profits split between her father, her older sister and herself. She plans to move her and her young son Atticus (with a nod to one of my favorite Classics), to San Francisco to be near her older sister, as their father wants to move to New Mexico to be near an artist colony. But being back in Brightwater is tough, especially with the stigma of being a "Kooky" Carson still hanging over her head. But our hero, Sawyer, has other plans now that Annie is back. He wants to convince her to give him, and them, a real try; an opportunity to see what might have been. And oh, how I liked Sawyer. I especially liked that he didn't try to go all "Alpha" on Annie. It was more the gentle wooing of her with patience, understanding, and true affection. Don't get me wrong, as Sheriff of Brightwater, I am sure that he had his Alpha moments, one with a cousin comes to mind, but not with Annie or Atticus. And that's where the truth strength of this romance was, with Annie and Sawyer's interactions. There were some very interesting side characters throughout, that I can totally see getting their own chance to really shine in a later book. Plus Grandmother Kane. Oh, I just know we will be seeing more from her. I had a lot of fun with this book and gave it 4 stars.

How cute is this cover?! Annie and Sawyer are adorable with a side of sexy and a heaping dose of swoon. Second-chance-at-love stories are my favorites and LAST FIRST KISS did not disappoint. Not that I expected it to--Lia Riley wrote it and just like her NA series, UPSIDE DOWN, I thoroughly enjoyed the writing, the setting and the characters. Annie is quirky and guarded, something I can definitely relate to and Sawyer is the kind of hero I love. I liked the secondary characters too, even if Sawyer's grandmother both entertained and scared me a little bit. I'm looking forward to reading Archer's story next! LAST FIRST KISS is a fast, fun and refreshing start to a new series.

This book. Dear lord, this book. It has ruined all other book boyfriends for me (besides Archer Kane-which we get to see more of in the second book in the Brightwater series!). But, oh my, Sawyer Kane. He is a sexy sheriff in the small town of Brightwater. An all-around good guy who loves to fix things around the house to help the heroine Annie, has a six-pack, is kind to his grandma? Be still, my cowboy loving heart.  Annie was also a breath of fresh air for the contemporary romance community. She's an independent single mom who is trying to feel out her new role after a divorce. I LOVED the blog posts--that was probably my favorite part in the book, besides incidents with Grandma Kane. But really, I just loved Annie so much and, as a mom, I could totally relate to her.  The second chance romance between Sawyer and Annie was so adorable and seriously had me giggling like a fricken school girl. Everything in this book was just so feel-good and I enjoyed it so much. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves fun, sweet and sexy contemporary romances!

I received an arc copy of this book, via Edelweiss, from the publisher in exchange for a honest review.  This was my first time reading a book by this author, and I can tell you with complete certainty that it won't be my last! You know you have discovered a real literary treat when your barely a chapter in and you have developed a case of the giggles, are sporting a huge grin on your face and are already blushing. The banter between the characters in this book is truly some of the best I've ever read, I must say the author truly has a knack for creating amazingly funny one-liners and hilarious spicy references!  I love reading second chance love stories and this one totally hit the mark. The story line was very engaging,  well executed, and easy to just fall into and enjoy. You can tell that the author put lots of time and care into developing these characters, and you really could not have asked for a better story. I also appreciated that the author created a back story that introduced readers to the characters families without it taking away from Annabelle and Sawyers story, and blended everything together seamlessly. I am really excited to see what the author has in store for the next installment in the series and can't wait to read more about these families.  Very engaging and entertaining read, I highly recommend it!
