I am a HUGE Gena Showalter fan. Have read all of the LoTU books and all of the Alien Huntress books, as well as earlier books - the Atlantis series, etc. I was excited to reaf this and had high expectations, which Showalter has always unfailingly met. But this book was a big letdown. It felt sloppy and forced. The characters were wonderfully vivid and the set-up was delisciously intense. But halfway through it was like Showalter ran out of ideas and stopped caring. The heroine is deaf and relies on lip-reading to communicate. However in one scene the hero is facing AWAY from her and she somehow manages just fine. Later on, she actually "hears" a gun click! EXCUSE ME?? How did this make it pasr her editor? Did Showalter forget who she was writing about? Sloppy careless mistakes like this rudely jerk you out of the story. Additionally, the lack of denoument (post-resolution) is sudden and the ending leaves much to be desired. Everything is resolved and happy in like 20 pages, all of the foreshadowing and build-up is forgotten and the Deus ex Machina sweeps in a fixes everything. Not good. I've come to expect more from Showalter and she should expect more from herself. Save your money and borrow from a friend. Don't support a non-effort.

Let me preface this with the fact that I've purchased all of showalters books and loved them. This one however, not her best. You may wanna borrow it from a friend or library. It was very preachy and heavily handed with allorgical moral and religious subtext. So much so that it distracted from the story. If you want religious allegory take a visit to narnia, its much better done. A good and bad invisible mini conciense on his shoulders and a moral knowing that disappears when your naughty? Really? Did that come out of a tom and jerry cartoon? And I found the characters lackluster and a little predictable. I found it difficult to become absorbed and the plot line dragged and unfortunately it felt very contrived. So convient for them to be locked in a cage alone where the others couldnt see them, soooo nice for that tiger she saved to come back at just the right second.... yeah. I coukd not suspend belief. It was better then a lot of others I've paid for but not worth the money. I hate to say it too because I feel disloyal to one of my favorite authors. Hope this helps decide your purchase.

I have read many other novels by Ms Showalter and this one was a little different but still up to par. I read the other reviews and the majority of them weren't good but I really have to disagree with them. Yes, some parts were confusing b/c so much info was given in a short time and yes some parts having to do with her deafness weren't writtenright, but overall the book was still good. I will read it again and can't wait for the next one.

I am a fan of gena showalter, but i was so disappointed in this book. The storyline snagged my attention, but i didnt connect with the characters as well as i normally do. I havent even finished reading the whole book yet. I dont know if i will. Im not disappointed with gena just this book. I dont expect an author to have perfectly written/interesting stories every single time. If anyone has a creative side to themelves then you understand that muses come and go. Now that i have that said....i didnt like the mans character nor did i feel like the woman character was a woman. She seemed to me as if she were a twelve year old girl. I havent finished it like i said but thats my take on them. I also felt like the personalities of the characters was not either built right or just not existing in the first place. In the begining she started to build him up to be a bad ass, but as she went on his badassery seemed to disappear. He wasnt a wimp by no means, but he lost my cutiosity about his character. Im gonna stop there. I just plain didnt like it, but will not stop reading gena. Who knows maybe she had things going on in her personal life that was a distraction...anything is possible. Cant wait to see whats next from her though.

Have always bought her books on first day but wish I would have waited. I wasn't aware of her new religous outlook on life, I don't begudge anyone their faith but I didn't buy this book to be preached to. I don't know how the rest of her series will pan out with this change but I don't think I will be auto buying again. Don't get me wrong it was a sweet story but could have picked it up at the christian bookstore. This was not what I was expecting from this author.

Seriously disappointed... I don't like starting a book and not finishing it, but it was a real trial to force myself to read this book through to the end. Nothing from the book felt like a Gena Showalter novel. If you like Ms. Showalter I would recommend you avoid this book, because it will turn you off. If you haven't read this author before, read her Lords of the Underworld series, which is amazing, and stay away from this one. So sad, since the description sounded cool.

fast paced, suspenseful and romantic Last Kiss Goodnight is one for the bookshelves! It's a spin-off from her Alien Huntress Series but you don't need to read them to understand what's going on in this book. You'll fall in love with the characters from page one! Last Kiss Goodnight is intense, sad and this book!

This was so disappointing! If I had not preordered and paid for this book, I would ask for my money back. This was boring and moved so slow. No real action or tie to the other characters we know and love at AIR. So predictable. I love Gena Showalter books and read all the other series, but she missed the boat on this one. She needs to bring it in the next book or this series is dead in the water. I hope she doesn't go the route of Anne Rice and let her religion dictate her writing and realize too late that she messed up. This is fiction. She has the freedom to believe whatever she wants but don't bring your personal beliefs to work. I am now leary of doing any more preorders before I read the reviews.

I loved this book!! I read the reviews before I bought it and was worried that it wouldn't be as good as past Showalter books. However, it was a great book and I didn't feel that it was "forced" like other reviews stated. Don't let the lower reviews scare you off from reading this book. It is another hit from Showalter and I can't wait for the next one in the series to come out!!!

I am a faithful reader of Gena Showalter, but I have to say that this book is one of my favorites from her. The characters were strong, and so was the plot. Solo is a super sexy secret agent, and was totaly fighting his heart at the begining, but Vika has such a good heart that you cant help but like her, and Solo couldnt help but fall in love with her. Showalter realy made me care about the characters. Great read, finished it in 2 days... only because I had to work.

A new series for Gena Showalter and what a great start! I give her a high five for keeping the adventures coming. The start of the story was a little slow for me but after some of the background was told the story took the reins and didn’t stop until the last page. The main characters Solo and Vika both had a similar background but different in there own way. When they finally realized they needed to work together to have a better life, sparks went flying. I can’t wait for the next book to follow this series. I would like to say I also loved the Bible verses Gena used at the top of each chapter, I have to say they were beautiful

Wow i was surprised by the negative reviews on this. This is not LoTH or showalters amazon books but its a great read. I really felt for the heroine and thought there was great character development. I think this book sets up pretty well for a series and wouldnt be surprised to see more in the future.

Our Review by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: I adore Gena Showalter's books. I'm obsessed with LOTU, devour the Alien Huntress books, and am smitten with her new YA. So, when I heard that Gena was writing an Alien Huntress spin-off I was beyond excited.  First off, as always and expected from Gena, Last Kiss Goodnight gives us a fascinating world, lovable characters, & a unique story.   Gena celebrates her faith in this book by prefacing each new chapter with a bible verse, and uses tie ins to those for the characters and their plight. Some readers might not like this, but knowing how important Gena's faith is to her, I found it wonderful to see her openly celebrating it in such a manner.  Vika is a wonderful heroine. She's strong, smart, spunky, and overcoming some incredible challenges. I love strong heroines and while she has her vulnerabilities she is exactly that.  Solo is an interesting hero. He's got some baggage and definitely is struggling with some self esteem problems, but I like that he's different and I love the way he cares for Vika and his friends. So, all-in-all, while I didn't love Last Kiss Goodnight as much as I do Gena's other books (it just wasn't as action packed or sexy to me), it was an enjoyable read and was wonderfully written. LITERAL ADDICTION gives Last Kiss Goodnight 3 1/2 Skulls.

Rating: 4.5 Heat Rating 3 out of 5 Last kiss good night by Gena Showalter is the darkest book that I've read in quite a long while. It had abuse and evilness on a bunch of levels. In fact, I have to say that this book is probably Showalter's darkest book to date. There was a ton of symbolism in this book. It mostly dealt with good versus evil. These basic concepts were explained in a way that everybody and anybody could understand. Vika's father as the villain was evil to this core. The man was abusive and he acted like a dictator. He ruled with an iron fist and everybody was afraid of him. His behavior was repulsive. He discussed me. This is one antagonist that I had no issue with hating. Very rarely does a book elicit such negative emotions from me But it was impossible not to have hated this man. On the other end of the spectrum were the protagonists. Both Vika and Solo were excellent characters. They both were damaged yet had extremely redeeming qualities. They were both survivors in their own separate ways. What Vika had been through in her life was nothing but appalling. However she still soldiered through it all. She was courageous, sweet and caring even though what she had been through could have easily turned her into a bitter and heartless person. Solo on the other hand, took a different approach to life. Whereas Vika remained caring Solo bottled up those types feelings. To the outsider he appeared rough and stoic. On the inside though he was a man who dreamed of love. He hated being judged by his external appearance And longed for a true connection to another being. Though there wasn't a lot of sex in this book there was a lot of romance. I love how Solo and Vika were so drawn to each other. Solo's feelings of protection towards her were wonderful to see. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the religious symbolism in this book. However, although there was a lot of religiosity in this book I don't feel that Showalter was trying to "push" her religion on her readers. Each chapter started with a Bible verse which is something that you don't see in paranormal romances. The story of David and Goliath was mentioned as well although their names were kept out of it. Another thing that was biblical about this book was that Solo was named after King Solomon. And remember how I said that this book dealt with the basic concepts of good and evil? Well that was portrayed by what can only be described as an angel and demon whispering in Solo's ear. Though This book was very different from Showalter's usual style it was nonetheless a great piece of work. Showalter still packs a great punch. Though she came at this story from a different angle her creativity is still abundantly apparent and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us with this new series.

I’m not a big fan of the Lords of the Underworld series, but fell in love with Gena Showalter's Angels of the Dark series. I can’t wait till the next in the series to come out. I was not sold on this book by the overview but was so happy I tried it anyway! I loved this book; it was not what I expected at all. I loved the quoted from the Bible that went with each chapter, beautifully done. It left me wanting the next book, which I will buy today and be sad I cannot read the rest till they come out. But I will be counting the days for this series and the Angels of the Dark series to come out. Way to break out of the mold in the Romance department. I’m glad this book was not raunchy and all about sex, I feel a book has to have a story a meaning and make you feel good. So Thanks Gena Showalter for taking on a new side as others have said, I truly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next in these series.

In this world, alien life forms from all over the universe have come to Earth. Through battles, cities have crumbled and been rebuilt. Aliens have been abused, attacked, and barely been accepted. Over the years, some things have become more accepted but for the most part, humans and aliens don’t interact that much. Vika has had to endear her father’s wrath for years. It started when he acquired the family circus and had to do whatever it took to make it successful. Vika has no friends except the poor abuse animals which come to a bad end due to her father. She has taken a lot of physical abuse over the years and has lost her hearing because of it. Now she is taking care of the new attractions. Solo is an alien assassin. With his Dr. E and X guiding him, he does the different assignments given to him from Michael, the man that has help mold Solo and others. Recently, aliens have been disappearing. All that is left is destruction and a symbol meaning revenge. Just as they are getting the assignment, the building is bombed. Solo walks up in a cage in a circus. Solo is not receptive to being in a cage or young lady that is supposed to take care of him. But if X says she is the girl for him, what can he do except escape and make it so. Vika is trying to find a way to save all of the aliens along with herself, but it’s not going to be easy with her father and his black magic keeping everything running. I loved this book! It was very easy to get into, I felt so sorry for Vika, and Solo was the typical strong, possessive male without being too overbearing. I also have to say that although many paranormal romances have the whole sex ever couple pages; this is one book where is it very laid back with more story and character development. This is one book of Gena Showalthers you don’t want to miss. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. I didnt notice the scriptures from the bible till i was almost finished. The tie between the story and the scriptures was because of the name of the main charcter and his adopted parents and how they brought him up. I believe that eveyone has to stand for something and to me it enhanced the story. Since i am an avid reader was able to finish this book in three and half hours. I will be waiting for the other two men stories to be published.

Showalter aims to please and she does it again. Half the readers are complaining. But thats bc she used the shock factor and strong emotions. Raw emotions holding nothing back just like showalters style. I read one review--it said that showalter is off her game that she made a horrible mistake--bc the herione "heard" something. Well that reader didnt read the whole thing!!! There are explanations for all and its paranormal wenches! Genas still awesome. The lords are still my fave but this one is good. Dont let bad reviews stop you. Judge for yourself. I think shes still got it going on and cant wait for the next release and blue's story

I enjoyed the book and will continue with the series, however, it is not the best work from the author. I'm hoping this just has that "first book in a series slump" most of them have.

lots of action and romance with arresting characters A spin-off from Ms. Showalters Alien Huntress series. This series has a possibility of surpassing the original. Like the original there is lots of action and romance with arresting characters. In this book Black-ops agent (and alien) Solomon Jonah is caught in an explosion and wakes up in a cage in a bizarre circus where aliens are the animals/freak show. His caretaker is the owner's daughter Vika Lukas he knows she is the key to his escape but more importantly he recognizes her as his other half. Vika has been abused by her father and fears him as he becomes increasingly evil and violent. She vows never to become like him and even if she can't free Solo and the others she does what she can to protect them. She feels the connection between her and the new guy but she has to protect him and her heart. Solo and Vika are conflicted by their feelings and circumstance. Get ready to RUMBLE! Solomon is one of the biggest and baddest of Ms. Showalters aliens to date. Vika is light to his dark, sweetness to his sourpuss, and just as strong in her way. What they go through is just amazing and appalling and frightening and wonderful.

I am a huge Gena Showalter fan and read every single one of her books and have loved every single book she has written. Until this one. I kept hoping it would get better but it was hard to immerse myself in and it didn't seem to have the natural flow of events. I would have never guessed this book was written by one of my favorite authors. On a second note all in all its not an awful book but its extremely doubtful I will ever re-read this. Its not the worst book I have ever read but it did leave a lot to be desired.

I have not had the chance to read Gena’s Alien Huntress series yet, which Last Kiss Goodnight is a spin off of.  I will say that I don’t think that you have to have read Gena’s the Alien Huntress series first.  Gena does a good job of explaining the world.  But I think if you did read them you would have a greater understanding of the world.  That being said I am on the fence about this book.  I loved the setting, the idea, and a good majority of the characters.  Solo & Vika are great together and apart.  But I will admit that I was bored more than once while reading.  Maybe I was tired.  But there didn’t seem to be the same amount of action or sexual tension as I have found in past books of Gena’s.  But overall I did enjoy.  Really like the ending and the tension.  I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.  Disclaimer:  I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
