Last Suppers: Famous Final Meals from Death Row

A murderer from Texas ordered twenty-four tacos for his last meal---and that was just the appetizer! A Maryland man wanted nothing but a cup of coffee prior to his lethal injection, while a killer from Oklahoma requested SpaghettiOs and was enraged when he didn't get them!

Does a condemned man's last meal somehow shed light on his inner psyche? Like a mystic reading tea leaves, do we hope to discover the reasoning behind a mad killer's crimes by examining the gravy smears on his plate? Regardless of the reasons, the last meals of executed criminals have long provided food for thought, and Last Suppers: Famous Final Meals from Death Row adds an unusual---and sometimes comical---twist to the controversial capital punishment debate.

This is a very funny look at the last suppers of various soon-to-be-ex death row inmates. The biting ascerbic comments, humerous asides and well documented death row 'nuggets of curiosity' keep me laughing for hours!

You have to have a dark sense of humor, but if you do, you'll really enjoy this book. There's plenty of info about the last meal tradition plus trivia about death row and prison life.

So, now I am pondering what I would have as a last meal. I wonder if I could have wild game. Not only did I enjoy reading this fun little book from cover to cover, I find myself going back to it and telling my friends about these people, their crimes..and what they choose as the last meal they will ever have. I plan to give both my daughters a copy for christmas.

A nice informative book about the last meal process with plenty of humor thrown in for good measure.

Not quite as good as the author's other book about death row, but still pretty darn funny and has tons of interesting information about the last meal process, along with detailed last meals from about 50 executed criminals.

Intetesting but also a little silly

While I found the dinner details and weird facts very interesting, I could do without the attempts at humor. I didn't think it was very funny and was more annoyed with these attempts than anything else. At least it was only $0.99.

Curiosity got the best of me after reading the tile. I expected the book to detail the final meals of death row inmates. It does this and much more. Some of their famous last words are detailed as well. It also contains some rather strange execution facts and prison recipes. The authors' attempt at humorous commentary merely annoyed me as I didn't find this book to be funny at all. Mocking tragic circumstances is in poor taste in my opinion.
