Lateral puzzles are best done in a group. One person reads the puzzle, and then others ask questions requiring only a YES/NO answer. Like brainstorming, one person's question will often trigger another's thought patterns to veer off on a tangent not considered before (thus "lateral" thinking). Sometimes it takes a few samples to get folks to start thinking outside the box. Some might remember the puzzle from the Cosby show about the accident victim taken to the ER. The attending physician refuses to treat him saying, "He's my son." All knew the doctor was not his father. ??????The only hint I would give is that even feminists often flub this one.I LOVE lateral thinking puzzles and so does my husband. We sometimes use them on long trips, especially with the grandchildren.

I like how it puzzles you, but when you read the answer, you feel like sayng,"Why didn't I think of that. It's so obvious!"

After we finish our work for my College SAT Prep class, our teacher quiz us with a few of these puzzles. Some of them we get off the back while others leave us scratching our heads. Once she tell us the answer, we are banging our heads on the desk wondering why we didn't get it.

This book supplied my friends and I with hours of entertainment... never gave up! This was one: There's a man living in a house for two months. After the two months of not seeing anyone he becomes derranged. One night he puts out the fire, turns out the light and leaves. As a result of his actions before he left 90 people died. How did he kill them? You'll have to buy the book to find out!!!
