Overview

Layers Crossed by Lacey Silks

She's a city girl.
He's a country boy.
And their worlds are about to collide.

Seeking justice, the mouth-watering cowboy, Eric Waters hires Cross Enterprises to find the man who's been threatening and haunting his family for decades. And the city girl he hires captures his heart and soul.

Tired of beat-up cases, the witty private-investigator, Emma Cross, finally gets an assignment worthy of her talents. Except keeping her wits around her muscled employer from the country is more difficult than she expected.

The moment their paths cross, Eric and Emma captivate each other, but mixing business with pleasure may prove more risky than Emma has bargained for and more deceitful than Eric's honest heart can handle.
With a foundation of lies and fear to put the past behind them, their blossoming relationship is tested by family, friends and enemies.
As threat looms, trust and honesty are broken, and Emma and Eric's lives are flipped upside down. Can they withstand the storm and find a way to stay together, or will each have to go back to their corners of the world?
Layers Crossed is intended for mature audience only. While it is book 1 in the Crossed Series (spinoff of the Layers Trilogy), it can be read as a stand alone. No Cliffhangers and a HEA.

Eric first meets her in a strip club when she's doing a pole dance to satisfy a bet. I like that she's a feisty competent P.I. who can handle herself, but is stressed dealing with her over protective brothers/partners, and unable tomove forward after the traggic death of her first love. Unfortunately the story loses itself in implausible and overly dramatic plot and character details. Her lost love isn't just a young baker who has died - he's moved here from Europe, starting his own business to be with her instead of stepping into the established family business back home, there's cutesy dialogue making fun of his English language skills, and we eventually learn he was blown up in a dramatic explosion that tears through a restaurant, killing her best friend's fiance and leaving her with physical and emotional scars. He dies throwing himself on top of her, and his parents blame her for his death. Would have liked this better if there was a more straightforward attempt to portray loss and grief without the overly dramatic details. Eric's past includes not only overcoming a childhood abduction, but also horrific events at a summer camp, and his mom's overcoming an abusive past. One would be enough to address and deal with the impact on his ability to move forward in relationships. Just too much piled into the plot, when this could have been allowed to develop at a more plausible pace. Some interesting twists and turns in the mystery, but not very realistic. Would no one actually understand Missy's connections? How is it she and her team can track the villain when he has unlimited funds and has been searching unsuccessfully for years? Lots of unresolved plot points - the ex-girlfriend who's a main character for about three scenes and then drops from the story; the backstory about her brothers' love interests that gets referenced like she's trying to recap two other novels in one or two lines; the friend's brother who is in one scene during a dance at a bar and eventually gets his own story; and, the traumatized sister who also gets her own story in the next novel. Two stars for occassional fun scenes, potentially interesting characters, and strong complex female lead who doesn't just rollover despite an "instant attraction" element, but not enough to make me want to read more.

Emma Cross 10 years later is still the spunky, nosey girl we all remember ...rolling her eyes....but this Emma is also heart broken and lost in a job that she hates even if she does work with her brothers at Cross Industries. But when she meets Eric Waters in a strip club one night over a loss to a bet, her whole life is about to change by this Cowboy. Eric is a Cowboy thru and thru and Emma is a city girl all the way but with one touch and sparking flying Eric knew he found his one true love, his soul mate. But when the next day comes and they meet each other for the first professional could they still feel the sparks from the night before from that one chance meet ?? Eric hires Emma to do PI work for him but would he be able to keep it on a professional level and will Emma be able to keep her head in this case with having this hot gorgeous sexy cowboy around all the time. Little does Emma know that Eric was working for Cross Industries too..when she finds out will there connection and love and finding your one true love end ?? Lies is a bring deal breaker for Emma, you can't build a relationship on lies is her moto.... But when hearts bring them back together and tragedy strikes them again will they be able to repair and survive the ordeal ?? Can they make it through death, ex girlfriends, killers, barns, festivals, bakery's, families and airplane ?? Anything is possible !! This story has your gripped to it from the first chapter....seeing little nosey Emma all grow up was fascinating to see how she turned out and you see Julian and Tristan...who could ask for more....but Lacey gives you more and more she gives the more you can't put this book down like the rest of them she writes !! I love the characters and to see so many and connect the two stories together just FLOW'S !! Awesome Job and can't wait to read about Annabelle !! Soon PLEASE !!

WOW, what a great and emotional story. I can not imagine what is was like for Emma Cross. Here she was strong woman that had two overprotective brothers. She helped her brothers at Cross Enterprises. She was a very smart woman and had such an interesting job. It had to be very exciting to be a PI, unfortunately her brothers worked very hard to keep her out of danger. Can you say yum? Eric Waters was this sexy cowboy. He was one panty melter. Women looked at him and I am sure thought Ride a cowboy and save a horse. Eric did have something he need a PI for, he needed to find a very dangerous man. HIs family would not be safe and could not heal until he did so. I loved how Eric first met Emma. It defiantly was not under normal circumstances. I am sure he truly did not know what to think of her. Emma herself was taken back by the sexy cowboy as well. So funny, Emma is this free spirited woman that is a wild card. Eric on the other hand is a total gentleman. My heart truly broke for both Emma and Eric. Both had very heart breaking stories. Both had a past that haunted them. I tried to decided between the two which was hurting the most. I could not decide. Both were damaged to a certain degree due to their past. These two will defiantly find healing within each other. OMG, I so wanted to jump in the book and give Clair a beat down. That girl just did not know when to let go. She defiantly trouble. I think I would of loved to of seen her get what she deserved. I just loved Misty. This girl broke my heart. She was living with a dark secret and was so damaged due to her past. She lived in fear for so many reasons. I loved how Emma embraced her and became the friend that Misty needed. Things will get very hot and steamy between Emma and Eric. Emma will find she can not keep it total professional. The thing is there are secrets and secrets can destroy them if they are not careful. There are a few twist along the way and the danger will not go away. Emma will prove how amazing and strong she really is and Eric will prove how much he really loves Emma. This was a great story and glad I got a chance to read the book. I am so going to have to read the other books in the series. There is still so many unanswered questions. The other books in the series are defiantly a must read. FYI, though I loved the whole book my favorite part in this story was the ending. OMG, brought tears to my eyes.

I just loved Emma. She is so strong and smart yet needed some serious love in her life. With her brothers smothering her and the loss of her fiancé she was not one to open up to anyone. Enter Eric, that's one unconventional but yummy cowboy. Their story is a good one, both not being fully honest with the other throughout but after a bumpy road they find happiness. I am intrigued with the mention of Annabel and then Cash as well. I will definitely be reading more of this series, ask am a devote Lacey Silks fan and this series is shaping up just as great as the Layers series.

Lacey Silks delivers another amazing romance with a fabulous level of suspense. Emma, the younger sister of Tristan and Julian who tend to be over protective, has been very daring lately. I love her courage, stubbornness and strength. The opening scene has us in a strip club and Emma is performing, definitely an amazing way to kick of this story and give us insight into Emma's devil-may-care attitude. While performing she sees a Cowboy that sparks something in her she hasn't felt in years, she needs to meet this man. Eric is at the strip club to meet a business associate and never expects to be knocked off his socks by a stripper but that is just what Emma does. He needs to meet this woman. Of course, what they don't know is that they have become each other's project for the next several weeks. Eric needs an investigator to find a man from his families past that is still traumatizing them even though they haven't seen him in years and Emma needs a real case to sink her teeth into (something other than cheating spouses). As these two spend time together, the truth about their pasts are revealed and the depth of the pain both struggle to deal with every day is revealed. As sexy as their physical connection is, it's how they connect through their painful pasts and help each other find light in all the darkness that really pulls you in. Of course, nothing is ever easy and as Emma unravels the mysteries of Eric's family, she ends up in danger, will Eric make it in time to save her?

WOW WOW WOW!! Just when you think things couldn't get any steamier or sexier it does!! Layers Crossed is everything you think it could be and more!! Emma is all grown up and still as nosey and curious as ever, which lead to her own sexcapades with a hot hunky cowboy!! Things heat up as she gets closer to finding the man who's hiding from and tormenting her cowboy. As Emma investigates she finds herself falling harder faster and deeper in love with her cowboy and wanting, needing his love filling every space she can imagine!! The closer Emma gets to finding her cowboys tormentor the hotter, sexier and faster paced things get both with her cowboy and with the investigation. Hang on to your hearts, hats and hankies it's gonna make you laugh cry and wanting more than just reading ;) Lacey Silks has out done herself with Layers Crossed but could it possibly get any hotter or even more Crossed??

I found Lacey Silks with Layers Deep, book 1 of the Layers trilogy and have loved her writing style ever since. Layers Crossed is about Emma Cross, sister to Julian and Tristan Cross. The brothers are over protective of her and since she has joined the family business, they keep her busy with cheating spouse cases. And just when Emma has had enough she meets Eric at a strip club of all places. Turns out that Emma lost a bet with Grace, her BFF, and stripping was the result of losing the bet. There is an immedient attraction between Eric and Emma and they can't deny it. But the reason that Eric has found Emma will be a total surprise. Can Emma forgive him and they move on together? What will Emma do to her brothers for interferring in her life and her case? This story has suspense, heartbreak, lust and finally love. If you love a great story then give the Cross children a chance. You will love them as much as I do. **Copy provided by the author in exchange for my honest review**
