About the Author

Gary Romano founded Civitas Strategies in 2010 to provide high-quality management consulting to for- and nonprofits working to serve the common good. The firm quickly took off, and has recently grown to include spin-off company Access HR (, which provides cost-effective talent management and recruitment services, as well as coaching for individuals looking for new jobs.

With more than 20 years of management and consulting experience, Gary has extensive expertise helping organizations move from vision to implementation. Gary holds a Masters in Urban Affairs from Virginia Tech and a Bachelors of the Arts from Stony Brook University

Alison LaRocca is the Engagement Manager for Civitas Strategies, where she plays a key role in leading a variety of client projects. She specializes in helping clients to increase their social impact through strategy design and implementation. Alison also serves as a principal consultant with Access HR, helping clients to design affordable and sustainable talent management solutions.

Prior to joining Civitas Strategies, Alison taught at the award-winning Community Day Charter Public School located in Lawrence, MA. Alison holds a Masters of Education from Merrimack College and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Williams College.
