I met Jake when I was seventeen and at eighteen, I became his wife. The years that followed were enchanted, like a fairy tale romance.

Then, in the blink of an eye, my perfect world unraveled-I lost a part of myself and my dreams shattered around me.

At twenty-five, I was left a widow, pregnant, and mother of two.

Fast forward almost five years-I exist but I don't "live." I had to learn to live without him, with only our memories and my tears. I raised our children, and I lived his dream, without a thought to myself.

That is, until the day at the stoplight, when a pair of violet eyes stared back at me. In that moment, the numbness started to disappear, and lightning hit, changing my world once again.

3.5 Great Start Stars! The Review: I really enjoyed this novel. We essentially get two romance stories in one and by the end of it, I had experienced an array of emotions that left me captivated by the main characters, the story itself and the hint of what’s to come. For me, there were a couple of problems areas with the book but overall, this is a great debut novel. The book starts out with Jake getting some rather mysterious and foreboding news through the revelations of a fortune-teller. The first chapter gives us some intriguing foreshadowing and instantly hooked me. Jake is a wonderful character. You can really feel the love and devotion he feels for his wife and child through his inner thoughts and his desperate hope that what the fortune-teller told him is untrue. Through flashbacks and time jumping we get a story of love, beauty, honor and devotion with Jake, Faith and their daughter. I really connected with how they met and fell in love, how they were determined to conquer their obstacles and how when tragedy struck, Faiths world fell apart. Then we have the love story of Faith and Zane. It’s almost an insta-love kind of deal and I’m not too fond of those kinds of reads, however, when we learn later on why Zane’s feeling were so strong, why he was so adamant about having Faith and her kids in his life, and how his life changed the moment he sees her, it was like an A-Ha! moment and I totally got it. Their story was romantic and lovely and I loved the paranormal or spiritual aspect the author throws in to tie it all together. It was a perfect way to lay out a theory of soulmates and destiny and how love can truly transcend. But... Like I said, the story, it’s plot and the way it was presented, were fantastic. What I found hard to read, was most of the dialogue and some of the inner monologuing. It felt overdone and long winded and in some instances, made the characters seem much younger than they were. I think it could have been culled down to read better and not make the characters look so overzealous. Their proclamations of acceptance or love were drawn out and incredibly wordy. They felt like speeches instead of declarations. I think with the aid of a good editor, this read could have been perfect. And the ending, when we find out what Faith’s job is within the company, felt forced and added last minute, maybe to add some unnecessary strength to a character I already found strong. Whatever the reason, it felt ... off. Overall, I enjoyed this read. I melted over the love stories and even got teary-eyed in a couple of the emotional scenes. I grinned like a loon over some of the funnier parts and laughed out loud at some of Faith and Zane’s interactions. Those two were destined to be together and the author did a wonderful job showing that even when you think your life has given and taken the best there is, wonderful surprises can be waiting and life and love won't give up on you if you don’t give up on it. Leap of Faith was this author's first book but it certainly won’t be my last read by her. I can’t wait to see what new adventure and new romance she has in store for us in book two and I look forward to watching her grow as a writer.

I really enjoyed reading this book, as I found the concept of the book to be very interesting. The book is about a woman named Faith, and her two girls and how they overcome life without her husband who passed away. The story teaches us not to take life for granted and to live life to the fullest. I liked the idea of a single mom from a military background story as i haven't read very many like it, but i felt the pace of the story was too quick for me. I loved how the story touched base with the idea of death, and how even though a person may be gone from our lives, we have to carry on but never forget them. At times it felt rushed, and I would have liked the build of the story to have been slower so i could enjoy it more. Overall I thought Faith was an amazing character, and I loved reading her story and seeing her get her happy ending she deserved. Definitely recommend checking this book out if you love a good love story. I would also read more from the author in the future as well.

Reviewed by Janelle Fila for Readers' Favorite Leap of Faith (La Flor Series Book 1) by ML Rodriguez is a contemporary romance with paranormal and magical realism elements about love, loss, and second chances. Faith married Jake at age 18 and they were happy. Until the night everything changed and Jake was taken from her, leaving her widowed, pregnant, and a single mother. She wasn't sure how she would survive and live, or actually even enjoy life. Out of the question. That is, until Zane steps into the picture. A pure alpha male, Zane is sexy and powerful and knows what he wants. And what he wants is a chance with Faith. But her dead husband Jake is looking beyond the grave, keeping an eye on and protecting his family. Will he approve of Faith's relationship with Zane? Or can Faith learn to let go her lost past and focus instead on her bright future? This is a very emotional romance that tackles the issues of loss and moving forward in a real and gritty way. Readers will definitely ride the emotional roller coaster as this story progresses, and possibly shed a tear or two. There are so many twists and surprises in this story that readers will never want to put the book down and won't be able to flip the pages fast enough. All in all, a great bone chilling read that is fast paced, interesting, sad, scary, and thoroughly thought provoking and entertaining. A wonderful read!

This book was so emotional at times; but I great read. This book is unlike any book I have ever read in a way. Jake is told by a fortune teller at a fair that he will escape death once with the help of a purple eyed ghost and the second time he will hand the ghost his treasures. Jake was pissed at what he was told. Aren’t they supposed to tell you that you will find fortune and love not scared you half to death? This book starts with Jake’s death and then proceeds with how Faith copes with it. Faith and Jake’s romance is told with memories Faith has during the book. It goes on once Faith meets the ghost and how he helps her begin to live again and finally comes to terms with the fact that Jake is really gone and he is never coming back. If you are a crier I suggest you have a box of tissues nearby. I loved this book and all the characters in it. Faith is wonderful, strong, and amazing woman. Jake and Faith’s love was the once in a life time kind but they were both so young and may have assumed they have their whole lives ahead of them but life had other plans. Zane comes along and Faith runs from what she feels for him and from him literally. Zane is patient and knows she needs time to adjust to him and how she feels for him. He has become a better man, one that is deserving of someone like Faith and now he is done letting her run from him. He is going to show her he means what he says and that he is the man for her and her girls. I can’t say enough about this book. I highly recommend it. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. The characters pull you into your story and a great story it is; it is wonderfully written. I eagerly await more books from ML Rodriguez.
