Overview

Leave the Grave Green (Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James Series #3) by Deborah Crombie, Michael Deehy, Michael Deehy

When a body is discovered floating in a Thames river lock one dreary morning, Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Sergeant Gemma James are summoned from Scotland Yard to Chiltern Hills. The dead man is Connor Swann, son-in-law of two of London's most renowned opera personalities. And prints on the corpse's neck suggest that Swann was strangled. As Duncan and Gemma explore the quiet woods above the Thames and the flamboyant world of London opera in search of answers, they discover a tangled web of family secrets and hidden emotions. And when Duncan finds himself dangerously drawn to a suspect, he and Gemma must sort out their complicated feelings for each other.

Although I enjoyed this book, (and have already purchased another in the series), there were times when it seemed to be bogged down with a lot of unnecesary detail. However, the characters are well drawn and I wanted to get to know them better. I was somewhat disappointed by the fact that I was pretty sure I knew who the murderer was about 3/4 of the way into the book, and it turns out that I was right. The motive for the murder seemed trivial to me as well. I found it interesting that the author is American, but writes about England. The setting seemed quite authentic to me despite this, (although I have to confess that everything I know about England, I learned from a book.)

Read #1 and #2 in the series and had to keep on, though you don't need to have read the first 2 to enjoy #3.

Very well written. Love British mysteries and authors who don't try to just fill pages.

A good series to date. Characters are well developed, but their personal actions before the sudden conclusion were a bit suspect. Anxious to see how the personal relationship develops

Great mystery. I see this book as a threshold of sorts. Duncan did some necessary healing. I can't wait to see where the relationship between Duncan and Gemma will go. Can't wait for the next installment.
