I decided to read this book because I have friends who went to Mississippi State. I loved the feel of the campus and making the coaches and other staff real people. We all get tied up with our own issues so I like how the characters had to get over themselves and be who God wanted them to be.

Leaving Oxford was an absolute delight! I have read the third book in the series, and loved it, so I was excited to return to the setting of Oxford, Mississippi by beginning with the first novel. This story was so well written. I really appreciated the author’s use of flashbacks, so that I could truly understand Sara Beth’s situation. It made me deeply care for this character and hope for a happily ever after for her. Jess was also an amazing character. He was understanding and kind. The set up for Sara Beth and Jess’ growing relationship was great. They had quite a few obstacles to overcome and it was interesting to see how everything played out. I enjoyed Leaving Oxford immensely. The author did a wonderful job of creating a community and cast of characters that I am eager to return to. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Sarah Beth LeClair has returned to her hometown to find healing after a traumatic accident. Even though she has had more than her fair share of heartache, Sarah Beth keeps putting one foot in front of the other. Jess McCoy may have missed his shot at going pro as a player but he has embraced coaching and aims to make his way to the top. Wonderful book, I highly recommend it! I requested the opportunity to read and review this title through the author. The opinions expressed are my own.

Even though Sarah Beth has had more than her fair share of heartache, she doesn't give up and I just have to love her for that. Jess McCoy may have missed his shot at going pro as a player but he has embraced coaching college football and aims to secure a coaching position at the professional level. Leaving Oxford is a book filled with heartache, truth and freedom. Also, water skiing, sour gummy worms and someone who is not allowed to cook, their food is so bad! I admit, I wanted sour gummy worms the whole time. I love reading stories about people who are messed up and are in desperate need of Jesus. They remind us that we ALL need Jesus. We all go through things, we all make mistakes...And Jesus still loves us. He is still cheering us on, standing beside us, leading us to victory one step at a time. Janet Ferguson is not shy about her faith, that is very evident in Leaving Oxford, and I commend her for that. Scriptures, worship, and prayer can all be found rooted at the heart of this book. As we get to know Sarah Beth, we see into her flashbacks of the past, revealing so much of the pain and heartache that she has had to endure. Her growth and encouragement for others is phenomenal! (That is all you get on that note...Don't want any spoilers.) I love seeing the way a community bands together to support each other and I am so excited to continue the series! I really like Jess McCoy too...his citrus scented hair and never ending support and encouragement. Such the perfect hero for this book! This book was very encouraging for me. Even though the anxiety that I have dealt with this last year is no where near the same level as Sarah Beth's, it is still very real. Even if you don't relate to the situations that are laid before you in the book, we all need Jesus and we all need his help. Be encouraged by Sarah Beth and Jess and the story they have to share. I received a free copy of Leaving Oxford from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Janet Ferguson’s novel Leaving Oxford is sweetly southern with characters who feel like friends and a plot that immediately engages. As Sarah Beth’s story is revealed by layers, you not only see her; you also see the grace of God. Sarah Beth LeClair is honest and compelling but also just plain adorable. Jess McCoy is just plain hot. And Gingie the dog is an adorably hot mess. And I can’t forget to mention precocious little Katie with her sassy southern drawl. Or her hunky widowed dad Nick. Or Jill. Or a host of other characters that march through the story and leave you smiling in their wake. A few may leave you in tears, too. Janet Ferguson creates a setting so vivid that you will feel the Mississippi humidity draping over you as you read, and even the staunchest Yankee may develop a bit of a southern drawl by the time you’ve finished Leaving Oxford. The romance between Jess and Sarah Beth is one of those delicious slow-burn kind that has you craving that first kiss almost as much as they do! Cute humor, sweet friendships, and a meaningful message elevate Leaving Oxford beyond a simple romance, and the characters guarantee that you go one-click the next book Going Up South as soon as you finish this one. (Side note: I thought, as I was reading Leaving Oxford, that I knew who Going Up South would be about. I was almost completely wrong LOL. But it turned out better than I anticipated, so I’m okay with that! ) There is a lot of “church speak”, which in the South is common vocabulary anyway lol – and some moments where I felt the story took a break for a sermon or two – but it didn’t really detract from my overall enjoyment of the novel. (I received a copy of this book in exchange for only my honest review.)

This is a beautiful story about overcoming your own fears. Sarah Beth's life is changed forever when a tragic accident occurs. In an attempt to start over, she leaves the hustle and bustle of LA for the southern town of Oxford, MS. The author's descriptions and story telling brings the quaint town to life and you're soon introduced to a host of characters that you'll fall in love with. Through faith and friendship, Sarah Beth is able to overcome her fear and find the love she's always wanted. Jess is a football coach who dreams of moving on to the big time. But moving up to the NFL will mean leaving Oxford...and Sarah Beth. It was great to see how God worked in the lives of these two people to bring them together. Fabulous story!

Leaving Oxford is a sweet love story that tackles the issue of panic attacks. The heroine struggles with anxiety. The hero is swoon worthy, and the kind of man you want on your side. There is also humor in this story. You'll find yourself smiling many times throughout the book. Leaving Oxford is a satisfying story that will make you feel like you are part of the community.

Leaving Oxford by Janet Ferguson Southern Hearts Series Book One Sarah Beth LeClair has a problem. She lives in Oxford, Mississippi and can't leave. She is held a prisoner there by her own fears. She has returned to her Christian faith and struggles with the question of why faith isn't enough to help her break through her fear. Coach Jess McCoy is intrigued by Sarah from the first time he runs into her at the college they both work at. She's a bit quirky...but something about her draws him. Unfortunately, he may be drawn, but she seems to push away. There are secondary stories going on as well. Jess's friends in Oxford and Sarah's friends back in LA. As God works in Sarah's life, He is also working through her. I really enjoyed this story and I'm looking forward to more from this author. I loved the real issues the characters face in their lives. This is a sweet inspirational story. Book two is Going Up South.
