I don't think this needs to be renamed. It really helps you learn to draw. It does have many of samples of her art, but I like that. I am a beginner and ended up buying graphite pencils, tortillions, erasers, bristol paper, prismacolor pencils, and verithin pencils. The colored pencils were pretty expensive, but the book showed many step-by-step drawings to draw. This is, in my opinion, her best book since it has a little of each book (not the more recent books). I made the mistake of also buying drawing flowers and nature in color. All but 3 pages are already in the big book of drawing. If you are a beginner, this is a must have. Lee Hammond is a great artist and I look forward to seeing more of her books.

Yes, anyone who looks at Lee Hammond's art is amazed at how realistic it is. The only drawback for anyone that needs drawing instruction is that it's filled to the brim with her artwork, with sometimes very little instruction. Also, it seems to me that her book is written for people who already have a wealth of art supplies on hand. She suggests many different kinds of pencils, papers, and boards to use, nevermind the fact that if you had all these materials you probably wouldn't need to buy her book in the first place. Some of us are just starting out (with a budget, I might add) and she makes no recommendations for basic supplies. Don't get me wrong, she's a great artist, and her instruction helped me out a lot, but there are some gaps in instruction and basic supplies. It was very confusing for me to decide on exactly what I needed to start out with, when most of her art is used with different pencils and boards. This book should be renamed Big Book of Lee Hammond's Drawings, because that's basically what it is and nothing else.

I have a number of beginner books on drawing and painting because I found useful information in each that the others didn't cover. Such is the case with this book. I have found that Lee Hammond's methodical approach is excellent for understanding the basics of drawing and painting such as light and shadow, value, perspective and pencil technique. Some books throw a bunch of complex pictures at you and tell you to use an HB or 4B pencel without giving you technique tips or guidance. But Lee takes you through the steps of sketching, laying out, layering and such to get you to the final feature you're drawing. Lee does the same with the painting books. It's an excellent book, but not quite to the five star level. A few more topics could have been covered. Nonetheless, I'm glad I bought it, and you will be too.

Gave this book to my daughter and it has really helped her bring more details to her pitures. The first half of the book show pictures in black & white the other half are in color. Perfect!

I'm an intermediate artist at drawing. I bought this book yesterday so I could make my drawings more realistic! After looking at just a few pages I know this book is going to be a big help. I highly recommend this book to aspiring artists!
