Left Horse Black by S. J. Reisner

For centuries, the zealot Kersian sorcerers have abducted innocent women and children for sacrifice to their 'no name' god, and have waged war upon Danaria's sorcerers. Now, they are covertly usurping the thrones of human-ruled kingdoms to do the unthinkable; they are building a massive human army to assist them in destroying Danaria's sorcerer bloodlines in an attempt to save their own.

Armed with nothing more than meager weapons, untrained sorcery, and mere instinct, a troubled human prince, an inept Danarian sorceress, and their friends, rise up and become the world's last hope to stop the Kersians, and save the sorcerers' dying race.

All I can say about 'Left Horse Black' is it ROCKS. If you like fantasy, swords, sorcery, and a twist of terrorism thrown in for good measure - this is the book for you. The relevance of the story to what is happening in the world today is uncanny. A great read - I can't wait for the next in the series to be published. Thanks, S.J. for a great adventure.

I haven't read sword and sorcery this good since Conan. This isn't your heavier read like Tolkein. Rather it's a light, fast read with characters who leap off the page. At the same time it's not your typical sword and sorcery because there is depth to the characters that goes beyond basic plot driven stories. Reisner's writing style reminds me of Cook and Martin. Fast pace, no nonsense, lots of character - strong dialogue. Now the dialogue is a bit predictable in places, but one has to wonder if the author didn't do it on purpose to mimic pulp S&S fantasy. People rarely use the word 'fools' in real life. The plot is not shallow as you might expect with sword and sorcery either. There's a lot going on in this story. I'm very impressed and I, too, am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I bought this book because I read somewhere it explored the topic of terrorism. I wasn't expecting much at first and then I read it. I was really impressed. I stayed up all night to finish it. There are enough characters that most readers would likely find one they could identify with. I liked how the book goes into each character giving the reader a chance to look through each characters eyes. Even the bad guys are fascinating. The story itself was really interesting. I wasn't sure how it was all related and all came together and was pleased that it did. The one thing I didn't anticipate was how anxious I would be for the next book. This is an author I will likely follow.

The Left Horse Black is an interesting take on sorcerers driven by realistic impulses for survival. You get so wrapped up in the characters that you feel you¿re right there with them. The world is so cleverly presented that you don¿t have to wade through the boring bits, yet you can clearly see the world and the people in it. The most weighty chapters are the first three where everyone is introduced. Even so, this is presented in a way that isn¿t dull. After that, the story moves with the urgency the characters are feeling. My only disappointment was that the book ended. I felt like I was getting off the ship, while my friends were going on to another adventure without me. I did not want it to end

Left Horse Black is an action packed fantasy basically centered on Tnasha fen Schott, an inexperienced sorceress who, with her friends, courageously battles Kersians to save her homeland of Danaria. Kersians plan to overtake surrounding kingdoms in a sorcerer¿s war for dominance. Their plan is to not only enslave the human population but to use captured sorceresses for breeding, thus insuring the continuation of their bloodline. Much more, it¿s an intensely driven plot that takes you through the downfalls of Tnasha¿s attempts to enhance her powers and leaves you wondering if she¿ll succeed. This is a page turner from beginning to end, at which time you¿ll find yourself looking for more. But hope prevails. This is part of a series by S.J. Reisner. Excellent novel. Highly recommended. I really don't know you, but I feel like I do. I really loved your book!!! I just know it will be made into a movie, just like the 'Harry Potter's' & ' Lord of The Ring.' Your picture is sooo beautiful.

Sometimes serious, sometimes light-hearted, Left Horse Black is an exciting fantasy adventure of epic proportion with a motley band of likable characters. This is a story of friendship, self discovery, and the strength of instinct and the human spirit. This book is a must read for the casual reader as well as fans of the genre. I can't wait for the next book.
