Legacy of Lies by Jill Elizabeth Nelson

Evidence from a decades-old murder is the last thing Nicole Keller-Mattson expected to find in her grandmother's backyard. The finger-pointing and accusations aimed at her family were easier to predict. Everyone in Ellendale is eager to blame the Kellers—but after an attack leaves Nicole's grandmother in a coma, only Nicole can clear the family name. With the assistance of police chief Rich Hendricks, she stands a chance of solving the mystery…if she's willing to accept Rich's help. Nicole lost her husband in the line of duty—trusting another cop is too painful. But not trusting Rich could be deadly.

This is one of the most exciting books I've read in a long time! I couldn't put it down until I finished it! It's written by a wonderful Christian author and is well worth a read!

When young widow Nicole Keller-Mattson returns to her hometown to make a fresh start, she soon becomes involved in an old mystery with new and dangerous twists! Moving in with her grandmother to care for her and help her with the family business, Nicole finds herself in the middle of a cover-up, and someone is very determined to keep dark secrets buried. To her horror, Nicole discovers the decades-old remains of a young child buried beneath the rose bushes her grandfather had lovingly tended. She is shaken to the core, and she begins to doubt all her long-held beliefs about her own family. Police Chief Rich Hendricks, a widower with a college-age daughter, comes to Nicole's aid in her search to find the truth about the dead child. It is a larger truth than either of them first suspects, and they are drawn together as they face unexpected threats and the ugliness of uncovering a "legacy of lies". Nicole is the widow of a police officer who lost his life in the line of duty, and she has reservations about becoming involved with another man in a high-risk profession. However, Rich has a quiet, commanding strength, and a gentle, respectful concern and care in his feelings for Nicole. They make a great team, and they soon realize that each of them may have found the someone special who will complete their lives. Rich is a masculine, handsome man, who admires Nicole's beauty and her intelligence and insight. Working together to solve the mystery, they also find their own answers to questions of the heart. "Legacy of Lies" is a well-paced mystery, with a story line that builds in interest as intriguing revelations are added along the way to the final resolution. I look forward to reading more romantic suspense from Jill Elizabeth Nelson. Review Copy Gratis Author

This book caught my attention by the end of the first several pages. It was hard to set aside. The characters are well developed. The plot leads you to imagine several different people are responsible for the event. A little romance thrown in just adds to the suspense. Definitely worth reading and one that I will read more than once.
