Old relics and have stories of their own. Sometimes they contain adventures waiting to be sparked and journeys bursting to begin.
The Box of Melodies was left with Clan Caris by Lady Oyisha, daughter of the mists, for care and keeping. A series of visions revealing the last desperate moments of a forgotten clan - the loss of their gateway to Feyron and the escape of a lone traveler holding the box - spurs a handful of adventuresome youth on a trek through the Lesser Forest where they inadvertently cause a ripple through the mists with unintended consequences.
A few of the youth find themselves on an unexpected journey to a World Beyond, lost in mist and shadow, where misunderstanding and suspicion lead to danger and darkness. Forgotten histories are discovered, clan secrets are revealed, and old alliances are remembered as the families of the lost seek to discover where the youth have been drawn by the memories within the Mists of Time.
About the Author
Diana is an indie author living in the balmy climate of the US south with her family, two dogs, one cat, and a cantakerous rabbit. She enjoys reading, sewing (clothing, costuming, and experimental toy-making), being “studio mom” for her children’s dance school, and RPG games. (She grew up with the old school paper/pencil style of gaming, but has transitioned happily to the highly interactive world of video games.) And, as if she had more time to spare, she has recently invested in Asian ball jointed dolls to customize into characters from Feyron. The idea for Feyron started with a map, a place for her daughter to tell stories and live out storytelling role-playing adventures with her friends. The lore grew around the map, for every world needs lore if you are going to “live” there. The idea for a series, Tales from Feyron, grew out of the lore, for if you’re going to invent a world, you may as well play there too. The stories are continuing to grow through the various historical ages of Feyron and have just started to ripple outwards to the Worlds Beyond touched by magic. Legacy of Mist and Shadow is the first tale to venture to one of those worlds and has been awarded the BRAG Medallion by Indie BRAG. http://www.bragmedallion.com/about

In the third and final book in the Feyron Tales series, there is a lot going on, many characters to keep track of (kind of like Return of the King by Tolkein) and much more is at stake. When we last left Feyron, The Box of Melodies is held in Feyron instead of by Lady Oyisha. A stark vision leads a group of youths on a journey of discoveries and truths long forgotten. The group go back and forth through time, unearthing both light and dark, not knowing if they can even make it back to Feyron. Will the Mists of Time let them return to share what they’ve learned or will they become the latest Forgotten Ones? Honestly, I loved this book more than the previous two. Sure, it was a darker adventure with so much conflict and a ton of characters to keep track of (and I got lost a few times) but when I was finished with the story, I smiled to myself and was completely satisfied. What a fantastic way to end the series! I won’t go into great detail as I don’t want to give much away (it’s more fun for the reader to be surprised) but this was a wonderful fantasy adventure. I loved seeing the characters of Feyron I’ve grown attached to mature and age. Wicker blends the present day with the Storyteller and the past beautifully, so much so that I hardly noticed when the present day child asked a question. Filled with adventure, magic, darkness, light, conflict and so much more, Legacy of Mist and Shadow is the epitome of great young adult fantasy. There’s strong life lessons here but Wicker masquerades it under the guise of magical realism. Well done! It’s no wonder this is an award-winning book! It’s a must-read for anyone who loves epic fantasy like Lord of the Rings, Wrinkle in Time and even Chronicles of Narnia. Favorite Character: Storyteller. When I read the first book, I didn’t care for the Storyteller. I found her parts distracting and it took me out of the story. But this is the third book in the series and I grew to love her. She’s a wise woman and she holds a special place in my heart. The best thing that I love about her is her patience with the kids who interrupt her. She waits for them to ask questions and then steers them back to the story. Favorite Quote: Inside her head his soft voice drifted, “Be not afraid. I not let you go.” My Rating: 4.5 stars
