Holy cow! I am Norwegian-American, and so the Viking ship intrigued me. But the story that I discovered, set in Norway and in the war zone of Iraq, got me thinking more than any book I have ever read. A Viking from 1000 years ago, who sailed with Leif Eriksen to the coast of America, returns to our modern world today. He wonders why, a 1000 years after the Vikings laid down their swords, people are still fighting wars that are far more devastating than anything he could have imagined. And yet, he is Leif the Believer . . . believing in something better for this world. So . . . he changes history in one of the most extraordinary scenes at the end of the story that I have ever read. Who is John Slade? Why don't we know about him?
