Leland is a tale about ordinary people living amidst the extraordinary beauty of the storied National Lakeshore; about the not-so-good side of good people, and the good side of the not-so-good; about the young and the old, and how they become enmeshed in circumstances that conspire to destroy the beauty in their lives and the character of their personal histories.

I don't know the 'proper' way to critique a book. I just know that when I read a book I'm enjoying, I try not to read it too fast. That's how I read "Leland." The author, Gene Warner, wrote such in depth descriptions of the main characters, that I felt like they were people I knew. Especially the main character, Jimmy. I really feel as if I know Jimmy and like him. The book leaves it's readers with lot's of unanswered questions that they will think about long after they have finished the book!
