About the Author
Clement C. Moore (17791863), an American scholar and poet, first wrote The Night Before Christmas in 1822 to entertain his children. A friend submitted it to a local newspaper, The Troy Sentinel, where it was published on December 23, 1823. Moore's delightful description of St. Nicholas and his eight flying reindeer has since become the definitive portrait of Santa Claus.

'Twas the night before Christmas,
when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung
by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas
soon would be there.

This is a true classic to be shared with generations. Do not hesitate to pick this book up, the illustrations are beautiful.
Having a few copies of The Night Before Christmas, this copy was purchased for the art. This book is a republish of a 1949(?-it's put away now so I think that's the correct year) edition and the dated illustrations are charming.
Needed a good, memorable story to read to my kids on Christmas Eve. This was as good as the one I was read when I was very young.
