Leonie by Elizabeth Adler

With only her exotic beauty, seductive innocence, pride, and fiery spirit, Leonie came from the provinces to find her future in Paris.  From the shame of music halls, she rose to international fame singing songs of love and longing, straight from the heart.  From Paris to the Cote d'Azur, from New York to Brazil, from Cuba to Cairo, she moved in a dazzling world of money, passion, and power--a world darkened only by the relentlessly hunger of one man's obsession--a man determined to possess her . . . a man who could never lover her, never let her go . . . .

I read this in hard cover many years ago. But when I saw it on Nook, I had to reread it. It is a wonderful book. I actually started this again because I also bought Peach and The Rich Shall Inherit so that I can enjoy the trilogy. Don't miss this---but be sure to start with Leonie and than go on to the other two. Adler is a beautiful story teller and you just want to keep reading and reading. You might also want to read Jeffrey Archer-The Clifton Chronicles--Only Time Will Tell and Sins of The Father followed by 3 yet unpublished.

This is a great read! I thought the story moved at a good pace and I found myself caring about the characters as you get to know them over the span of their lives.

This is the prequel to 'Peach' and also goes by the title Private Desires. Although both books can stand on their own, reading them in the proper order will ensure that you understand some of the comments made by the characters and the fact that Elizabeth glosses over some sections in history (I guess she's assuming that we're reading the books in order). This one is more detailed than the next and I greatly recommend it.
