Overview

Let It Be Jesus marks Christy Nockels' 20th anniversary as a recording artist. Teaming, as always, with her producer/husband Nathan Nockels, they celebrate with a live offering of new material recorded during one night at Passion City Church in Atlanta. Unlike the relatively stripped-down Into the Glorious from 2012 (an album that, were it not for its subject matter, could have been a contemporary country radio staple), Let It Be Jesus is maximalist and anthemic, from the cut-time opener "Into the Glorious," which has country-gospel at its core, to the building drama of "Everything Is Mine in You," to the Celtic rock tinge in "If You Never." This is also true of the ballads, such as "Jesus, Rock of Ages," which commences as a folk song and ends up a rocker, and the two set closers, the vulnerable "Find Me at the Feet of Jesus" and the shimmering paean to affirmation that is "Wonderful Name." In this last track, co-written with Jonas Myrin and Matt Redman, Nockels offers not only conviction but the promise of solace to a wounded world. The live sound is kinetic. The performances, from the singer, her band, and chorus, are immediate -- raw yet flawless. Combining this material with live recording makes this Nockels' finest solo offering to date.

Wonderful and easy to listen to! The first thing I'd like to say is that I really enjoyed listening to this album. Christy Nockels's voice flows pleasantly through the lyrics and, along with the music, is just so easy to listen to. Even when I had it turned down low and wasn't exactly actively listening it was so nice to have the praise playing in the background. Three of the songs that spoke to me the most were Freedom Song, Let It Be Jesus, and If You Never. With lyrics like “…I will shout it out to the mountain tops that You're my freedom song...” and “Let it be Jesus, the first name that I call...” and “...it always be enough that You set me free...” Wow! You really can't go wrong. Let It Be Jesus is a wonderful album from a very talented woman. As Christy Nockels sings, the world is unstable, and this uplifting album will encourage and remind you of God's love and grace. If you are like me than an hour of praise is just what you need and Let It Be Jesus will fit the bill perfectly. (I received a digital copy of this album from FlyBy Promotions in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.)
