Overview

Let Love Be by Melissa Collins

What would bring you happiness in a world that was suddenly empty?
For Lucy Crane, the answer is simple: her daughter. When her husband is killed in a tragic accident, Lucy loses her desire to live, but only one thing keeps her going - her unborn daughter. Focusing on being a mother helps Lucy cope with her loss, but kids grow up and they leave home, eventually. Eighteen years after losing her first and only love, Lucy is faced with the opportunity to find the happiness for which she's always longed. Her own fears become her worst enemies as she learns how to embrace love once again.
Evan Donovan is also facing his own struggles. Forced to retire from the FDNY because of lung damage caused by 9/11, Evan moves to upstate New York where he hopes to find a little peace and quiet. Old habits die hard, and Evan's hero complex and survivor's guilt constantly remind him of how difficult it is to be vulnerable. But for the first time in his life, he's tired of being alone.
Drawing strength from one another, Lucy and Evan discover how beautiful it is to let love be a part of their lives.

Book gifted by author. Melissa's book just keep getting better and better. This book is my second favorite of the series (my first will always be Let Love Heal) and I have to say, she is just an amazing writer, books like this are the reason I read, full of true emotions, going into real life facts. Taking us away with a book but never away of the real life problems that are out there, some of us might not see them but there are out there. You will believe here too, for all the 40ish ladies don't give up on finding love, if its out there for you you will find it sooner or later but you will. Read this book and it will help you see it clearly :) - Nasha Lama

omg this book is truly inspiring.let love be is the 4th book in the love series and can be read as a standalone. so if you have read let love heal you know our main character lucy as melanie's "momma". We get to know lucy on a more intimate level in this book. after her husband dies in an accident lucy has nothing but her unborn daughter to keep her going so for years she puts everything aside to be an amazing mother.Evan is forced to retire early from his job due to health issues and move to upstate NY Both characters have lost the one thing in their lives that means the most to them, and then they find each other. I don't wanna give too much away but lets just say this is a beautifully written love story that wil leave you feeling fulfilled and inspired. Kelly Fallon-Sloane

All I can is...WOW! Melissa's books just keep getting better and better! She is an author that I continually suggest to my reader friends, because she writes her characters and stories in such a way, that makes them just come to life right I front of your eyes! This book is my second favorite book, with Let Love Heal being my first. That's not to say that this story is any less powerful and passionate...it's just that the main character of LLH struck such a personal chord for me. Let Love Be is a MUST READ for those who have lost hope in ever finding another one true love. Once again, Melissa brings you right into the lives of the characters in her book and teaches about great friendship, strong family units, unyielding love, passion, and faith, and tremendous courage in all of life's unseen paths. Are there love scenes? Yes there are, and once again, Melissa doesn't disappoint. With Reid and Maddie there were all the awkward "firsts". Melanie and Bryan dealt with all the awkward moments that stem from low "self-image". Finally, with Lucy and Bryan, you learn that over 40 just makes the love that more strong and passionate...and they get it JUST RIGHT! If you have not read any of Melissa's books, then may I suggest that you put the book that you're reading now down...right this minute and begin reading her books. They are a must, and although you will cry a lot (I always joke and tell her that her books should come with a 1-2-or 3 box of Kleenex warning), your soul will be much better in the end for reading it. You rock Melissa!! Thank you for yet another blessing that you have give to us all! Love ya! Lara Cassity-Lovell

5 Stars I didn't read the other books in this series listed below before reading this one but I will go back and read them Let Love In (Love, #1) Let Love Stay (Love, #2) Let Love Heal (Love, #3) Let Love Shine (Love, #3.5) I really liked the story. It's a heartbreaking story that proves you can love again. I laughed and cried during this story. Really enjoyed Melissa's writing style. Can't wait to read the others from this series and the next one. Lucy has been dealt a devastating blow when her husband dies. But she must forward and take care of her daughter. Now her daughter is grown and her friend is pushing her into dating. Evan is having his own issues and dealing with them on his own. When a chance meeting makes the sparks fly will they know how to become and stay a couple? Will the past interfere in their own future? Can they trust in love? Will one assumed issue rip the fragile bonds holding them together apart? Are they wasting time when they could be finding the right one? I highly recommend this story.

This was a very emotional read for me.  Lucy has not been able to move on from her dead husband for the last 18 years.  Evan is dedicated to his work and has refused to let anyone get close to him.  They've both been alone for a long time, but when they meet, there is an instant connection.  As they both learn to let another person into their lives, they struggle with letting go of the guilt they carry.  Evan is such a sweet and thoughtful man!  I totally understand how Lucy was able to fall in love with him.   This is the fourth book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone.  I recommend it to anyone who enjoys an emotional and mature love story.   Complimentary copy received in exchange for an honest review.

## This was good, but not great. The beginning just dragged on. I realize the author was setting up the story by giving us a glimpse into both characters' lives, but it was just too long. By page 60 when the still hadn't met, I lost interest. I forced myself to continue but had to skim through it. A lot. The middle was fabulous. The hero and heroine flirting, getting to know each other and dating. That was fun and their chemistry felt real. They had good times and trying moments as well. And then the end started to drag again. I felt this book was too long for this particular story. 50 pages shorter in the beginning, 50 pages chopped off the end and I would've loved it. Instead I just liked it.

Let Love Be is the 4th installment in the Love Series but can be read as a standalone. This is the story of Lucy a/k/a Momma and Evan and may be one of the best in the series. This story was about letting go and embracing life again. Lucy and Evan are both damaged. Damaged by past events that have left scars so deep that only someone equally as damaged can repair.  Suffering the loss of her husband shortly before the arrival of her new baby Lucy doesn’t really have time to grieve. She is thrown from the role of wife to single mom in the blink of an eye. Her focus solely on Melanie. But before you know it, 18 years have passed and her reason for getting out of bed everyday has vanished. Evan is a NYC Firefighter and his sole focus is on protecting his “family”. Relationships have not faired well against his devotion to the firehouse. But when a routine call goes bad and people are injured Evan carries the blame. Evan also carries the after effects of 9/11 with him in more than one way.  Who knew that death could bring life to two people, but that is exactly what happens when Evan and Lucy meet at a funeral for Evan’s brother’s wife. Their worlds changed that day and we begin the journey of Evan and Lucy. "Evan, you woke me up. You brought me back to life and you made my heart work again. You made me realize that it's possible to love again." ~ Lucy I loved that this story was about an older couple. Being older allowed them to take past experience and mistakes and forge their relationship. The connection was definitely strong and their love endearing. The story told by Melissa was real. You could feel the sense of guilt that Lucy experienced in allowing Evan into her heart and pushing her devotion to Jimmy aside. But the understanding that came from Evan was heartwarming. He never asked Lucy to pretend she didn’t still miss Jimmy. He embraced it just as he embraced Melanie and her friends.  Although their road to happiness may not have been smooth, it is such a journey worth taking. Loss was something they both had previously experienced and they were determined not to waste time and enjoy life and love one another. Go grab your copy and Let Love Be.

I was gifted this book from the Author for an honest review. I gave this book 5 stars. This is book 4 in the Love series but can be read as a stand alone.  WOW! I love Melissa's work, I am one of her biggest fans. You just have authors you know that when they come out you are going to one click their work no matter what. She is one of those for me.  But I do believe that Melissa has outdone herself with this one.  This is such a beautiful emotional book that will have you captivated and in love from the very first page of the book. These two characters have been through hell and then some and for them to come together and become something so perfect is amazingly beautiful. I drew some hope from this book because even when you think that life has given you all you can take and you're not going to get your HEA, it surprises you. All the paths in their journey has led them up to this one. Thank you Melissa for yet another wonderful story in the Love series.  If you have not read this series you need to start from the beginning and do it! You will not be disappointed. I look forward to more of your work Melissa. <3

I have no idea where to start... Melissa Collins Let Love series just keeps getting better and better. She has the ability to grab hold of you from the very beginning and makes you feel all the emotions her characters feel. To see the relationship between Evan and Lucy develop throughout this story was very well done and the sex scenes were intense, passionate and so HOT!
