I immensly enjoyed McCullough's John Adams and 1776 as well as David Hackett Fischer's Washington's Crossing and Albion's Seed. Arthur Tourtellot's Lexington and Concord is on the same level. He masterfully weaves in the unlikely partnership of Samuel Adams and John Hancock, the former's ability to work events, and other unknown personalities such as Jonas Clarke, the minister who owned the home in which they were staying, into a riveting narrative of the event which galvanized the colonies, leading to American independence.
