Written by Jimmy McGovern and directed by Stephen Frears, Liam is an unflinching look at a family's tragic free-fall into poverty.
The youngest of three children, Liam is growing up in the Liverpool of the 1930s. When hard times hit the Liverpool Docks and Liam's father loses his job, the seven-year-old schoolboy watches as this proud and responsible working man becomes mired in frustration and bitterness. Determined to find someone to blame, his father joins the local Fascists, and so begins a tragic sequence of events.
