Overview

Warning: this story contains a major spoiler from SHADOW’S END (book #9, released December 1st, 2015). If readers do not want to be spoiled, they should read the stories in order of their release dates. This is a short story intended for readers of the Elder Races who enjoy Liam Cuelebre as a character.

Reeling from a deep loss, the magical prince of the Wyr, Dragos and Pia’s son Liam Cuelebre, turns inward and withdrawn as he struggles to come to terms with who he is, along with the challenges that lie before him.

Hoping to ease his heartache and offer comfort, a concerned Dragos and Pia offer him a gift, something he has desired for a long time. Liam’s response has a ripple effect across all of New York. Soon miracles of all kinds start arriving just in time for Christmas, along with a visit from a mysterious person who gives Liam hope and a vision of his future.

LIAM TAKES MANHATTAN is the third part of a three-story series about Pia, Dragos, and and their son, Liam. Each story stands alone, but fans might want to read all three: DRAGOS GOES TO WASHINGTON, PIA DOES HOLLYWOOD, and LIAM TAKES MANHATTAN.

Dragon Unbound I enjoyed this short, but poignant end to the three series arc that began with Dragos Goes To Washington. Liam has grown rapidly once again to the point where he is an adult in body, but still quite young in mind. He feels frustrated at wanting his independence from his parents knowing he does not have the experience or training to take the position that Dragos promised Liam could try for in Shadow’s End. Dragos would be a challenging father for anyone but most especially a young dragon who chaffs at being reined in by very protective parents. Because of a loss and other Wyr dynamics, his feelings are in turmoil. As Liam strives for independence and to find his own place in the world not overshadowed by his father, he makes some decisions that will put an interesting spin on future stories. After reading Shadow’s End, this story was a balm as well as a Christmas gift.

~ 4 Liam Takes Stars ~ Liam Takes Manhattan is a shot story in the Elder Races series by Thea Harrison. This short is meant to be read after Shadow's End. Yes, their are spoilers for Shadow's End in this story, so read the novel first or be warned. I enjoyed the insight into Liam. He’s such a unique being that it puts him in a tough situation. Add in that he is now a teenager in less time then it takes other Wyr to grow and you have a character trying to find their place in the Wyr world and battle the growing pains of being a teenager/adult. He is currently at a crossroads, feeling lost in all areas of his life and wants/needs to find out who he is. By the end I was left wanting more. The ending does an abrupt end at a point when things are just getting more interesting. Many readers will probably not like this. I am hopeful the author will finish where the plot was going with another novella. If you love this series, it’s a must read. It’s told so well and flushes out a characters that has become one of my favorites the day he was conceived. Reviewed by Angela @ Angel's Guilty Pleasures

I have been salivating for the final book in this miniseries of The Cuelebre Family. We get such a holiday treat from Ms. Harrison with this way-to-short-I-wish-it-were-longer-but-I’ll-read-anything-she-writes story. Liam is growing up FAST. Well, his body and his dragon is anyway. He’s still relatively young in every other area and his dragon is pushing him to mature faster than his mind can. Liam is struggling with the immense power his Wyr form holds and he is experiencing some monumental growing pains. Pia and Dragos often struggle with parenting, especially since this is new territory for everyone. There are a lot of surprises in this short read and instead of commenting on them, all I can say is that this is a greatly anticipated read and I loved every word of it! I am so excited to see where the Elder Races will go next. The dynamics are constantly changing and I’m absolutely fascinated and completely enthralled. Thank you Ms. Harrison for this wonderful read. Happy Holidays to you as well! ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

The blurb reads, there is a HUGE spoiler, it’s right at the beginning of this book, so if you haven’t read book 9, Shadow’s End, you need to stop here and do that; the first few paragraphs of this book, will spoil Shadow’s End. You have been warned, and I am going to talk about my review, like you listened and read book 9. I have said it before, my favorite books are the ones with Dragos, Pia and Liam, and that hasn’t changed. In book 9 there is a death of one of the sentinels and Liam wants the opportunity to take his place. This all happened in the end of book 9, so you should be caught up at this point. In this book, Liam Takes Manhattan, this is the fallout of what happens with that decision. Technically, Liam isn’t a year old, but his dragon is pushing him to grow up supper fast, and he is almost a full grown man. His parents, Dragos and Pia, are still treating him like a little boy when he isn’t. Liam acts like a rebellious teenager that wants to stretch his wings, literally. Through it all he still remains the same boy/man I’ve grown to really like, and this was a great addition to his story. Overall I give Liam Takes Manhattan 4 Boundless stars, I really enjoyed it....Sara

I received this book early in ARC form, took one look at the warning about a major spoiler and laughed in derision. Spoiler? Bah, I needed to read Liam's story, he's been a favorite since he was still a fetus, for heaven's sake. Yeah. Um. Really wished I hadn't done that. Not because it truly spoiled book 9, Shadow's End, but because I went into this book with the wrong mind set. It's hard to believe that Liam has grown up so much in such a short time, but he is a predatory wyr; the apex predator you could say. It's a bit sad that he has lost some of his innocence and shine, but you can already see the kind of man he's going to grow into. I can't wait to read more of Liam's adventures. I gave this book 3 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Thea Harrison for the opportunity to read and review the story.
