Millions of people worldwide suffer from diabetes, but only ten percent are diagnosed with type 1, or juvenile diabetes - an autoimmune illness that usually strikes children and young adults. To eighteen-year-old Justyna the diagnosis comes as a shock, despite having been mysteriously ill for months. In the eighteen years that follow Justyna struggles to understand her illness and keep herself healthy. From unhelpful doctors, mysterious fainting spells and dangerous mishaps, to the discovery of the insulin pump, and becoming a part of a diabetic community, Justyna tells her story. What is diabetes? How does an insulin pump work? Do diabetics really have to avoid sugar? What do we want non-diabetics to know? This book holds the answers to questions most often asked by newly diagnosed juvenile diabetics and their loved ones.

This is a wonderful written book about a you woman that finds out she has type 1 diabetes. It goes through her struggle to find out what is wrong with her, her struggles to find doctors that understand her illness and are willing to listen to her needs. This also gave me insight into my daughter's friends and my friends that have this terrible disease. Lets hope for a cure some day.
Life After Death! The most exceptional and resourceful book, I've read in a long time. Incorporated with everything you need to know about diabetes. The books gives you a real insight to daily ordeals, and how to be independent in treating type 1 diabetes. Primarily telling us fellow diabetics were not alone with this condition. I can not praise this book enough!! Very impressive Justyna!!
A very easy read. Nice to hear from perspective of one that has gone through it. I bought eviok and then ordered for son who had pretty much exact experience at age 39.
As a very newly diagnosed type 1, this was a great intro to the world of diabetes from someone who has actually dealt with it herself. The words of encouragement alone are worth it. Personal anecdotes are backed up with scientific explaanations. A fantastic resource.
