Life Inside the Thin Cage: A Personal Look into the Hidden World of the Chronic Dieter by Constance Rhodes

Frustrated by the often unrealistic standards of beauty presented by today’s media, many women have become trapped in a never-ending pattern of chronic dieting. Daily they endure destructive self-talk such as “I can’t eat that or I’ll get fat” or “If I could just lose a few more pounds everything would be better.”

Chronic dieters may be any shape or size but they have one thing in common: They are often left to suffer alone with an undiagnosed “sub-clinical” eating disorder. Such sub-clinical disorders include eating habits that are unusual, even unhealthy, but do not fit the technical classifications of anorexia or bulimia.

Addressing the many dimension of “chronic dieting,” Life Inside the “Thin” Cage offers a wake-up call and practical steps to those who need healing. Readers will find personal stories, insights into their secret patterns and habits, reassurance that they are not alone, checklists, self-tests, and, best of all, a new road to emotional, physical, mental and spiritual freedom.

This book was ok. Not great, just ok. I already knew most of the information presented. I thought it was geared towards more of a younger group. The insights were good and useful and provided a lot of information if you haven't already heard it before.

I found this book very relatable to my own history of eating problems. I could never be diagnosed with anorexia or bulimia but was somewhere in the middle. This book hits that spot. It talks about what other books have left out.

This book has something for everyone. If you don't struggle w/ chronic dieting, chances are you do know someone who does. It is very informative and insightful. An easy read cover to cover and may be helpful in discovering problems we all may have deep down inside.

I just finished reading Life inside the 'thin Cage, by Constance Rhodes, and i have to say that i did not expect to relate to a whole lot in the book. I was completely wrong. From the minute i picked up the book, i was amazed to find myself relating to many of the personal experiences Constance had dealt with. Not only was this book a helpful insight for myself, but many friends came to mind as i read. I recommend this book to all women. I also reccomend this book for men. I know men could get just as much out of the book as I did.
