This is the first book in this series that I have read. I will say that I didn't feel like I was missing anything by starting at number five but I will go back and read the others. There were times when you got all twisted up in the technical aspects but all in all the author weaves an amazing story that pulls you in from page one.

Buchman develops this story in striking clarity. At times I felt like I was in a war zone myself. I loved how Buchman got technical without it dragging the story down. I found it to be a very gripping read, as well as a refreshing change from so many authors who simply allude to events rather than developing them. The colourful descriptions in this novel allow you to see what the characters were seeing. The shift between day and night, US and foreign added a dramatic counterpoint. The cast of characters in this novel were perfectly suited to the story at hand. I appreciate how everyone was more than simply their commission. Buchman works their everyday lives in with the events that they faced, showing how they balance. The main characters were exceptionally well and naturally developed. All aspects of their lives were developed, not simply those directly related to the story. And I love the way the main character thinks. By simply thinking, ‘Gods she was stupid,’ she opens herself up to an entirely new set of beliefs and principles that I found quite easy to relate to.  As a whole, this suspenseful & vivid story kept me captivated throughout. The balance of romance with the rest of the ‘real world’ story made it something that I’ll never forget. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Can't get enough of this series. Wish Emily was still part of the story but looking forward to reading more about her new adventures in a different series. Nice to know so many women can and do make it in the military. Like how Bill is now part of the SOAR team. Looking forward to more stories.

Reviewed by Nadene R. Book provided by NetGalley for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book Have you ever had to write a review for a book you did not enjoy? Well, I am faced with this task and it’s the most difficult review I had to write. I love romance and suspense and when combined it generally makes for an exciting read. It was on this premise that my decision to read and review this title was based. When I started this book I was hoping to be taken on an exciting journey. Alas! This was not to be. The story was slow and boring. The author uses a lot of military jargon. I spent most of the book researching these terms as a result, it was difficult for me to get into the story. There were times I found myself skipping pages as the story was slow in pace, boring and flat. This story is geared toward readers who know all about military life and the equipment/weapons used. Most of the book was spent describing the technical aspects of the weapons used and little time was dedicated to the romance and action. I was unable to establish a connection with the characters. The story did not evoke the emotions one would expect from reading romantic suspense. The story could not end soon enough for me. Based on the feedback I have read about this book, I figured there are readers who will enjoy this book but it was not for me. If you like military romance and have prior knowledge of the equipment, guns and the aircrafts used then you will enjoy this book. If you have no prior knowledge then be prepared to conduct research while reading.

Will and Trisha were completely awesome and enjoyable to read about. In fact reading about their interactions with each other and other characters was really great and the best part about the story. One main problem I had was that some of the description dragged on. I didn’t really understand all the technical jargon and the explanation of the guns and things really got me lost. Having no prior knowledge I don’t think will stunt everyone’s reading of this story, it just did to mine. All in all, while I enjoyed the characters, the romance, and the story I had a problem getting into it due to the war and gun terminology.  I think a lot of people will enjoy this story it just wasn’t my favorite.

I have read every book in this series and I think I like this one best. The main characters, Trisha and Bill, both are exceptional in what they do for the military. Bill has never met someone like her and greatly respects her achievements. Their chemistry together is fantastic. You feel their emotions, frustrations and fears. It's a winner in every category!

After the last book in the series, I seriously thought the series was at an end, what with Major Beale being pregnant and looking to leave (though thankfully she shows up in the Fire series now out), but with the publication of Light Up The Night, I was happy to discover that was not the case.  First - I'm in awe of the technical knowledge Mr. Buchman has regarding SOAR and the people/equipment that serve in our military. These books pay tribute to the serious responsibilities they have (in this case fighting Somali pirate) and acknowledges that our soldiers are people too. Now, onto the book itself. Trish, as one of only a very small handful of female SOAR pilots feels like she has a lot to prove, not just to the military, but herself. She lives in eternal awe of Emily Beale. Unfortunately, that leads her to be a little reckless at times and she does get appropriately warned by her SOAR commander and given time to think about whether or not she's willing to play by SOAR's rules. SEAL Bill has spent a long time digging into the Somali pirates but is rescued by Trish when his cover is pretty much blown and he's about to get killed through some bad intel. He's not happy about the rescue and lets Trish have it once they land on the carrier even after he realizes she's a woman and expects to get some flack because he chewed out a woman. These two both have issues that have to be dealt with and I really respect Bill for his dealing with his mother for so long and then Trish coming along to help him sort out the tragedy of losing his mom. The romance between these two progresses fairly naturally and with the understandable caution given they are in different branches of the military and likely to be separated for long periods of time should they actually get together. Still, in the end, love finds a way and I'm happy to say these two got the HEA they truly deserved. Glad to have read it.  Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Passion, emotion, intense: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT is the fifth instalment in M.L. Buchman’s adult, contemporary The Night Stalkers military romance series focusing on a group of specially trained military personnel from the U.S. Army secret helicopter regiment the 160th SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment). This is helicopter pilot Trisha O’Malley and CIA SEAL operative William (Bill) Bruce’s storyline. Although it is the fifth book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. The storyline finds Bill and Trisha at odds with one another. Bill doesn’t trust the military and prefers to work by himself. But finding himself with a group of pilots and a paramilitary unit, who rescued Bill from a Somali attack, he is about to undertake one of the most dangerous missions of his life-the SOAR unit has asked him to assist on their next mission to take down a group of Somali pirates who have captured several boats, including an American yacht, near the Horn of Africa. Bill’s reluctance stems from his need to work alone and his attraction to one helicopter pilot-Trisha O’Malley. The relationship between Bill and Trisha is one of immediate attraction but on the surface they rub each other the wrong way. From their turbulent first meeting the couple is in a continuous battle with their emotions and feelings for one another. But an urgent call back home will find Bill heading State side leaving a confused Trisha behind-only Trisha has her own demons to address before she is able to continue with the mission. The sex scenes are passionate and sensual. The world building continues throughout the series with the familiar names and places, military jargon and speech.  The secondary characters are colorful, engaging and include many of the previous storyline couples and characters. Their relationship to one another is of respect, friendship, comaraderie and love. They are all very protective of one another and will ensure that no one, even the new guys, will place anyone in danger. With reference to the military jargon, there is a vast amount of technical information and detailed military language throughout the storyline but it does not deter from the overall premise. M. L. Buchman has executed his research very well.  M. L. Buchman weaves a story of romance into a military action series with passion, emotion and an intensity that is breathtaking and real. You will feel the incredible highs and lows, the thrill of the hunt, and the honor that each member of the unit instills within his or herself.  LIGHT UP THE NIGHT is a realistic and intelligent look at a military rescue operation with a little bit of romance on the side.

Good addition to the series. I liked that it was set in a different geographical area. I found three minor editing errors. My big question is....why do all the women in this series have 'mommy issues', come on, can't someone with a normal healthy upbringing become a Night Stalker!

Reviewed for Read Your Writes Book Reviews by Gemini Light Up the Night was a very straight forward and entertaining book. It gave a lot of technical information regarding several aspects of the military and its weaponry. I felt thoroughly informed and was able to get a very good mental picture of everything that went on. I applaud the author for taking the time to truly detail each and every mission. Light Up the Night is the story of Navy Seal William “Bill” Bruce and SOAR helicopter pilot Patricia “Trisha” O’Malley. Even though they are in different branches of the military, their lives become intertwined as they take part in operations to decrease the pirate activity in Somalia and the Horn of Africa. There is a lot that goes on regarding Bill and Trisha. They meet under dangerous conditions when Bill is inadvertently rescued by Trisha and her helicopter team while he is undercover in Somalia. Although they get off on the wrong foot, they eventually become enamored with each other. Of course, they both have baggage that plays a huge role in the direction of their relationship but we all know that they end up together. It’s the journey that keeps things interesting. Their journey takes them on some explosive missions rescuing hostages and annihilating pirates. Generally, it’s expected that their emotions will play a negative role in the outcome of the missions but that’s not the case at all. Instead, their relationship, their differences, and their baggage makes them better at what they do. Clearly, they have their conflicts but they resolve them in a believable and rational manner. I look forward to reading other books from this author. I like the way that M.L. Buchman honors the military and shines a positive light on its servicemen and women. Source: Publisher via NetGalley

5 STARS! Romantic Suspense Released: 09/02/14 ABOUT THE BOOK: Name: Trisha O'Malley Rank: Second Lieutenant and AH-6M "Little Bird" Pilot Mission : Take down Somali pirates, and deny her past Name: William Bruce Rank: Navy SEAL Lieutenant Mission : Rescue hostages, and protect his past-against all comers They both have something to hide When hotshot SOAR helicopter pilot Trisha O'Malley rescues Navy SEAL Bill Bruce from his undercover mission in Somalia, it ignites his fury. MY REVIEW: Ever since I first discovered this author, I haven’t been able to put his books down. He has the ability to include just enough action and romance in his stories that leave me gobbling it up. There was always something a bit quiet about the lovescenes in his book (of course, I prefer them) but that didn’t diminish his books. And still, I kept turning around and around and buying and reading. Well, this book had it ALL. And when I say ALL, I mean, ALL. Mr. Buchman kicked his writing up a few notches in heat, romance, and action. This was everything I could ever want in a romantic suspense and then some. The humor, the grittiness, the wit, the love, the attraction, and the action all pulls together very nicely in this red hot package. Both Trisha and Bill are faced with danger and questions that will have you holding your book that much tighter, as really, with the superb writing of this story, you will feel as if you are standing right there with the characters. Even long after you’ve finished, you will keep thinking of the story, and that in of itself, gives this phenomenal book top stars!
