Like No Other Lover (Pennyroyal Green Series #2) by Julie Anne Long

Now or Never. . .

It's the last chance for Cynthia Brightly, the ton's most bewitching belle. Driven out of London by a secret scandal, she must find a grand husband at the Redmonds' house party before word of her downfall spreads all over England. Unfortunately, someone at Pennyroyal Green is already privy to the whispers of broken engagements and dueling lovers: Miles Redmond, renowned explorer and—thanks to his brother's disappearance—heir to the family's enormous fortune.

Miles set his sights on Cynthia once, at a time when the ambitious beauty thought herself too good for a second son. But now he's heir apparent, relishing his control. He strikes a bargain with her: he'll keep Cynthia's steamy secrets and help her find a husband among the guests—in exchange for a single kiss.

What could be the harm in a simple kiss? Cynthia is about to discover that it's enough to unleash fierce passion—and that Miles Redmond is most certainly like no other lover in the world.

This is the second of six books in the Penny Royal series. This was Miles Redmond story. The book concept and storyline was good book was not very romantic. There is little intimacy between the lead characters. Recommend for the slightly romantic readers.

It took me a loooooooooong time to get onto this book... i almost gave it up until i read ahead. Thank goodness that I did. This book is wonderful. At first the heroine seems a bit shallow and the hero a tad dramatic but then you get to know them and realize how fantastic they are. Just a good book. READ it!!!

Neither Miles nor Cynthia believes in that ephemeral thing called love or losing their hearts, etc., and both of them are adventurers in their own way: his dream is to get funding for a return expedition to the South Seas and hers is to marry well despite her tarnished reputation and be forever sheltered from struggling to survive. Much can happen - and does after an impulsive kiss - at a two-week house party hosted by Miles, the Redmond heir, when his parents are called away. Miles sets out to court wealthy Lady Georgina who adores him, and Cynthia sets out to capture one of three potential bachelor guests while trying to fight against their intellectual compatibility and ever increasing sensual pull. Secondary characters: Lords Milthorpe and Argosy, Mr. Goodkind and some gypsies move the plot along hilariously. The youngest Redmond, Violet, shows signs of growing up.

A little slow in the beginning but once I got into it, I really enjoyed it. Wonderful author. Can't wait to read the next book in the series which I already have.

I didn’t think it was possible for Ms. Long’s romances to get any better than the last one I read.  I was wrong.  Her stories just keep getting better and better.  Miles, an heir who will be disinherited if he doesn’t marry according to his father’s dictates, and Cynthia, who is an impoverished woman with a scandalous past, have an uphill battle accepting their mutual attraction for each other because of Miles’ father’s request that he marry the wealthy daughter of a family friend.  Ms. Long has no equal in writing about a Regency couple’s sense of duty, desires, frustrations and inevitable surrender to the power of love.  I was rooting for Miles and Cynthia from the get go and was holding my breath way too long through many scenes in their love story…until finally they achieved their well-deserved happiness.  This is definitely a sigh-worthy romance!

I really wanted to read this book so I could read I KISSED AN EARL. I loved Cynthia, Miles, Violet and all the quirky characters of Pennyroyal Green. The book to long to setting up everyone. Like Cynthia from birth to she was at Pennyroyal. Just to many words and too much information for me. I am going to read I KISSED A EARL Because I really love Violet and she needs to be taken down to earth. I give this book 2 fingers up and 5 toes.

Nicely fashioned story that reminds us that we seldom take the time or effort to truly "see" others, and reminds us how much richer and deeper our relationships are when we do.

Loved this book. The story tempo and characters developed like a song you love and want to hear over and over again. Miles is one of my top heroes. I haven't read all of the Pennyroyal Green series because the story descriptions don't all grab me. This one did. I've read it 2-3 times and have read What I did for a Duke 2 times. I loved that Miles was a hunk of a smart guy. And, JAL took a pretty heroine with some very unlikable flaws and made you root for her. JAL is one of my "look for in B&N" whenever I got to the store.  I'm not that into rake stories...just SO done with that hero archetype. I appreciate the characters JAL draw. She's masterful. Do yourself a favor and buy this book!

I am really enjoying this series. Each character has their own story to tell and you get wrapped up in it that you are transported in time. Well written. At times you know whats going to happen and at other times you dont and cant put the book down. Check out these series you wont regret it.

Interesting characters interacting over a weeklong house party. Good character development and romantic trysts. Combustion with the interaction between guests, as one penniless guest engages in a romantic relationship with a rich bachelor who is promised to woman of his own wealthy class. Quite interesting how "true love" wins out.

This was a wonderful, romantic and somewhat erotic novel, with some nice bits of humor. I'm reading the entire Pennyroyal series and I highly recommend them to those who love the regency romances and don't mind them containing some hot sex scenes. I accidentally read the third or fourth book, I Kissed an Earl (stupid title) first, so I've gone back to catch up and find out more about some of the incidental characters in that book.
