Overview

Beautiful, willful, and adventurous, Eulilia Northrup of the Virginia Northrups felt no need for the God of her best friend, Serenity. Swept off her feet by the wily Wade Cooper, eighteen-year-old Lilia elopes, imagining a life of bliss and roses in her future. It does not take long, however, for her to discover the real reason Wade married her.
After she makes this heartbreaking discovery and sees the hidden stash of precious coins he purloined from her father, she begs to go home. Before she can return, she receives a telegram from her brother informing her that their father has placed a $1,000 bounty on Wade's head. With jail awaiting him in Norfolk, Wade takes his bride aboard the Ohio River paddle wheeler Cameo, where they determine to head out to Independence, Missouri, to Serenity Inn – the gateway to the West – and to second chances.
Along the way, Lilia experiences tremendous heartbreak, loneliness, and abuse before recognizing the serious consequences of the choices she has made. Life on the prairie is certainly harder than she imagined. While she longs for the peace that radiates from Serenity, she wrestles with trusting an invisible God.
Lilia's Haven is the heartwarming story of a young woman who keeps running into the tender, forgiving love of her heavenly Father, while struggling to adjust to life on the untamed frontier.

About the Author

"Joy is a perfume you can't pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself." At conferences from Maine to Hawaii, Alaska to the Caribbean and beyond, Kay Rizzo shares her excitement for living God's abundant life. She delivers spiritual insights with a balance of humor, drama, and vulnerability that moves her audience from laughter to tears to conviction.

Former girls' dean, high school and college English teacher, sold her first book in 1985. Since trading in her grade book for a computer keyboard, she's published 41 books and 1000+ articles, including I WILL DIE FREE (endorsed by Amnesty International); ON WINGS OF PRAISE; and the SERENITY INN SERIES. Her latest books include ELIZABETH, AN SDA GIRL SERIES and POPSICLES, BLACK HOLES AND BURNT TOAST, the 2003 devotional for junior age readers.

In her spare time she writes a monthly column for "Winner" magazine, a positive lifestyle journal for preteens. A facilitator for Florence Littauer's West Coast, "Writers' and Speakers' Seminars," Kay served on the 2002 teaching staff at the Glorietta Christian Writers' Conference.

Kay met Richard, her college professor husband, in the school library at Atlantic Union College. Their 42 year romance produced two daughters, two sons-in-laws and two grandsons. Mini-honeymoons to the coast, kicking back with the grandbabies, making music with family and friends, reading a good book and traveling to far-away places are the Rizzos' greatest loves.
