My fith grade class is reading this book and so far we're begging our teacher to read more. Right in the begining it's a little surprising but once you read more, you ca'nt stop! Anyway, we're not finished yet but we're at the shocking part where Matt is shopping... you'll have to find out what happens!

Have you ever wondered what happens when you reach the limit on your monthly credit card debt? The Limit by Kristen Landon describes this scenario with action packed suspense. Written with a target audience of high schoolers, evidenced by the teenage boy on the front cover, this futuristic realistic fiction holds thrilling passages of almost 300 pages. The vast amount of dialogue makes it available for a wider audience. In this book, the government keeps track of families who fall into debt, but has a twist that kids must go work for the government if their family goes over their monthly credit card limit. Matt wonders if his family is next when they run into some cash problems at the store. The government has some special plans for Matt and his small family in Lakeview when Matt is forced to work for them. During his adventure, he learns some new things about the program and has some tricks up his sleeve to try to escape, going on a unhinged journey to leave the workhouse and come home to his family. Matt’s friend, Henry Cooper, one of the most favored characters, has a funny sense of humor and comes along the journey to help Matt escape the facility. The book is a futuristic dystopian novel with the whole concept of kids having to work for the government and being taken away. The book met its goals by having a variety of suspense leading you to want more. The novel tends to move fast except for how much time was spent waiting and just hanging out at the workhouse instead of trying to find some more answers, which carried on longer than it should have. The book also didn’t have much action in the climax leading up to the middle of the novel. Middle schoolers or high schoolers would enjoy this book due to all the action packed paragraphs and suspense. Adults will enjoy this book given the historical references of Britain’s workhouses in the early 1900’s. For everyone, this book is a great thriller and would sure be a great book to read on a rainy day!

Personally, prior to reading the novel, I was dreading the mandatory summer reading for my school. Once I began reading, however, I was hooked by the suspense that captivated the plot of Landon's writing.
