Have you ever been so scared your soul left your body?

All her life, Lesley Carpenter has been haunted by a gruesome nursery rhyme--"The Scottish Bride"--sung to her by her great grandmother. To find out more about its origins, Lesley visits the mysterious Isobel Warrender, the current hereditary owner of Linden Manor, a grand house with centuries of murky history surrounding it.

But her visit transforms into a nightmare when Lesley sees the ghost of the Scottish bride herself, a sight that, according to the rhyme, means certain death. The secrets of the house slowly reveal themselves to Lesley, terrible secrets of murder, evil and a curse that soaks the very earth on which Linden Manor now stands. But Linden Manor has saved its most chilling secret for last.

I bought this book because I buy all Samhain's horror books, since they started. I am not a fan of novella's but I bought this one and read it and was very impressed. I have never bought this authors books, but will buy them all now The main characters is a regular woman who is trying to make her life better, she decides to write her paper ont a childrens nursery rhyme. Little does she know the horror and trouble she is getting into. I could not put this novella down. Read it straight through. Wonderful read

Cat Cavendish serves up a spectacular ghost story with all the trimmings due its UK setting. A manor house hundreds of years old, a creepy, cryptic nursery rhyme, an overgrown mausoleum. You’ll shudder as you follow Lesley Carpenter in her quest to unearth the secrets of Linden Manor. Sharply written and favoring suspense over gore, this novella captivates from the first chapter with tight dialogue and splendid descriptions. The ending is perfect. You’ll wish the story was longer, but lucky for you Cat has the novel SAVING GRACE DEVINE on the way to fill that need.
