Ten-year-old Lindsey has moved from Colorado to Washington and finds it hard to make friends. The kids in her new neighborhood have formed a club. The club's rules are made up by a forceful boy, Martin. Martin doesn't want Lindsey, a girl, to join in at all. He sets Lindsey some tough initiation tests designed to get her into trouble. The story provides an insightful look into the pitfalls and rewards encountered along the way to forging new friendships. It is also a tale of encouragement in which a girl triumphs over a status quo unfairly dominated by boys. Lindsey succeeds through self-reliance, agility, and a good sense of right and wrong.
