The story of the novel revolves around a certain period in the life of an African woman. Having divorced her first husband, she enters a polygamist marriage.
The story is set in modern-day Accra, Ghana. There are several characters and themes in the novel. Through these themes the author presents the emergence of a new and highly educated class of men and woman who are trying hard to know about their contemporary identities in conjunction with the ancient traditions which they have been living with.
