Overview

Little Dragon is about to be a big brother...
A new baby dragon is on the way, and Little Dragon is not happy about it. There's no way this can be good! Little Dragon doesn't even want to look at the egg. He ignores it, then tries hiding it. He even "decorates" it, which just makes a big mess.
But soon enough... Rattle, rattle, CRACK! When the big moment finally arrives, the whole family receives a surprise! Maybe things aren't so bad after all.
Little Dragon and the New Baby addresses the universal difficulty of adjusting to the idea of a new sibling.

Cute story for young children with a sweet twist at the end. The illustrations are adorable. I bought an extra for a new baby on the way!

At first it can be a struggle for a child to accept a new brother or sister, especially if they have to share their room. Little Dragon has his parents to himself until they bring him a surprise—an egg, soon to hatch! In the sweetest way, he expresses anxiety and frustration with this disruption of his world. Using art is a safe way to process his emotions until his mom sees what he is drawing on! Author/illustrator Deborah Cuneo has brought her amazing talents to this magical moment in a child's life. Deborah's art work appears so soft, you can almost feel it! Little Dragon's mischievous egg-art, and the page filled with a cloud of bubbles will bring giggles to the youngest readers. A beautiful and thoughtful gift for a child finding out that change is part of life, and it can be funny, sweet and exciting!

The universal theme of a young child's uncertainty about sharing the family spotlight with a new sibling is beautifully presented in both words and art. The dragons are a perfect choice as human surrogates to capture the imagination and attention of young readers. Even a first-grader will be able to read this book independently.I'm looking forward to passing this book on as a gift. Brian Heinz

This story and the illustrations brought a smile to my face. While the story of becoming a big brother, sister or dragon is simply told, the illustrations add layers and depending on the age of your dragon invites conversations. Many children are probably feeling the same way as Little Dragon. This is a cute one to add to your shelf.

What a beautifully illustrated book that tells the story of acceptance. If you have a child who may be worried about a new sibling or any new addition to a family, this story carries you through the full set of emotions, from confusion, to worry, to anger, to acceptance, to love. The words are sweet but the illustrations tell the whole story. Enjoy!
