Chapter OneOnce upon a time, there lived a spider monkey named Renjo. Renjo lived at the zoo with three female spider monkeys whose names were Renetta, F.D., and Spooky.
They lived on an island called Spider Island, where Renjo and the girls spent their days lying around in the sun, waiting for the zoo to open.
Renjo did not know that before the end of the day a little mouse would move in and have plans to stay.
Renjo would get excited when he would see his keepers coming to feed him. He would always run around the island with great excitement. He would wonder what was on the menu today. Would it be grapes? Renjo absolutely loved grapes. That was his favorite food of all. When his keeper would start feeding them, he would make happy noises, kind of a whistling sound. Then he would find a spot, take his food, and eat it.
That morning the group was sitting on the island when Renjo noticed a little mouse was on his island. He pulled F.D. over to see it, as if to say, "Why, is there a little mouse in our house?"
She was not at all interested in the little mouse. She said, "When our keeper gets here we'll show her the little mouse that's in our house."
Finally, the keeper came over to check and feed them. Renjo started running all over the island and pointing to the little mouse that had come to their house. "Oh keeper, did you not see this little mouse that has come to my house?"
His keeper could see that Renjo was quite upset so she told the little mouse, "Little Mouse, you can not live in Renjo's house. I am sure there is another house we can find you. Perhaps you would like to live at the otter house, it's much bigger than Renjo's house."
The little mouse said, "I think I would like to live at the otter house, but could you tell me if there are other mice that live there?"
The keeper said, "I do believe there are a lot of mice that live at the otter house."
