Reviewed by Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Little Pearl's Reflection: The Light in the Window is a children’s adventure book written by Sarah Ann Kinnear and illustrated by Bodil Sebrina Christensen. Little Pearl loved going out to watch the stars with her mother. The two of them would lie out on the grass and watch as the stars moved across the sky. Her mother knew all about the stars and would point them out to Little Pearl. They went out to watch the stars on the night before Little Pearl’s seventh birthday. She brought her new adventure book and a candle to read by just in case she felt like reading during their long night. It was an amazing evening. Stars were blazing all over the sky, and Little Pearl and her mother were awestruck by the night sky show they were witnessing. Eventually Little Pearl closed her eyes for what seemed like just a few minutes, but when she opened them again, it was daylight -- and her mother was gone. Little Pearl looked all around her, but her mom was nowhere to be seen. Where was she? Little Pearl set out in the direction of the Old Winding River, as her father has always advised her to, and began searching in earnest for her mom. Sarah Ann Kinnear’s adventure book for children, Little Pearl's Reflection: The Light in the Window, is a lovely story about Little Pearl and her adventures while searching for her mom. I especially loved the sections of the story that describe Little Pearl’s visit to the old woman and her garden, and her interactions with the blue eagle. Kinnear’s story reminded me of the children’s classic fairy tales written by fantasy writer, George MacDonald, and this story was a most welcome and pleasant surprise for this long-time MacDonald fan. Bodil Sebrina Christensen’s illustrations are lovely and bring the island home of Little Pearl and her family to life. Little Pearl's Reflection: The Light in the Window is a grand selection for story or bedtime; it’s also a perfect pick for a more advanced young reader. It’s most highly recommended.
