As an early childhood educator/administrator with over 20 years experience, I am always looking for wonderful new books for the classroom. Little Penguin Gets the Hiccups is top on my list of outstanding new classroom “read alouds” with an adorable story mixed with beautiful illustrations. From the very first page, the author engages the reader with a problem that needs to be solved. The reading audience is asked to help rid Little Penguin of his hiccups by giving him a scare and saying “boo” on the count of 3. When I read this to my classes, the laughter and giggles were such a delight. The children loved the interactive nature of the book in addition to a BIG surprise toward the end. I won’t tell what the surprise is...you’ll have to get the book yourself and see. And oh, the “surprise” is also hidden subtly in the captivating illustrations near the beginning of the book. If you are looking for a great new book to share with children, Little Penguin Gets the Hiccups should be top on your list!
