Overview

Live and Let Drood (Secret Histories Series #6) by Simon R. Green

The name is Bond, Shaman Bond. Better known as Drood, Eddie Drood. Yes, I’m one of those Droods—the family who’ve been keeping the forces of evil contained in the shadows for as long as humans have walked the earth.

Recently I suffered a slight case of death, but thanks to Molly, my best girl (who happens to be a powerful witch), I got over that right quick. Unfortunately my family wasn’t so lucky. In my absence, Drood Hall was destroyed and all my relatives were killed. Which left me as the last of the Droods.

I didn’t much like being the Last Drood, I can tell you—and then I realized that things weren’t as they seemed. Someone had activated a dimensional engine, sending my Drood Hall off to an alternate Earth, replacing it with a burnt-out doppelgänger. My family is still alive out there. Somewhere.

And nothing’s going to stop me from finding them….

I really like Green's books. I really do. But lately it seems that as his series continue he just runs out of new things for his characters to say. One could cut probably fifty pages out of each of his books by removing his standard lines that arent used just once, but flogged over and over. In the same book! The other issue I have is the crossover of his different series. I like that he puts his different characters and locales in his different series, but once again it just seems like he has run out of ideas and just uses them as filler, slowing down the story. I'll give one more chance after this, then I'm done.

I love Simon R. Green's writing, and it kept me going through a story that felt a little threadbare. Molly and Eddie's constant smart-mouthed bickering got a little old about halfway through - it was like being stuck at dinner with that couple who argues at the table and not being able to escape. That being said there were a couple of interesting plot twists, but the ending was very predictable and cutesy. Love the Droods, but this series is starting to get the same flogged-to-death feeling that the Nightside series did at the end.

Carries on the tradition of the Droods. Mr. Green has again fascinated with his continuing tale of the Droods. Can't wait for the next episode to see what happens going forward.

Another fantastic story from Simon R Green. I couldn't put it down, a well written, edge of your seat story from start to finish.

This series continues to be entertaining. I have read all of this series as well as the Nightside and Ghost Chasers series. They are all great and I would recommend any of them.
