Live and Swingin': The Ultimate Rat Pack Collection
Boys will be boys, particularly when you put them onstage in front of an adoring audience as ready for a good time as the performers surely are. The Rat Pack thrived in the Las Vegas spotlight, and this exuberant time capsule recording captures all the good-natured mirth and off-color fun that Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. could muster when performing together. The jokes and good-natured clowning around come fast and furious, but the excellence of the singing never seems to suffer, because these guys never played for a laugh at the expense of their inherent artistry. Sinatra and company -- Frankie is of course the top dog, although the others acquit themselves with high honors -- here display the solid professionalism that made them legends in their own time, and beyond.

No matter what recording of The Rat Pack you listen to, be ready to laugh, and this one tops the list. Adding to the already growing collection of Rat Pack archive discs such as the 1963 Sands Concert, this disc features more then twenty tracks of Frank, Sammy, and Dean singing and goofing around at the Villa Venice Supper Club in Chicago in 1962, at last presented in its full format, having gone through several copies on the black market. These tracks have been previoisly unreleased and have never been heard before, and they are simply the best! The DVD features Frank Dean and Sammy singing with special guest host Johnny Carson at the St. Louis Opera House for a Dismas House fund raiser, and if you think hearing them was funny, wait until you see this. Just seeing Dean keel over during 'Birth of The Blues' is enough to make you buy this disc. Get it here at BN.COM!

I was on the Sinatra Family Forum, and I heard about this release, and as soon as it came out in stores, I bought it and was not disappointed. It contains two great performance's of Frank Sinatra's legendary 'Summit'. The Audio CD was, in my own humble opinion, somewhat of a let down. It is not an entire performance from the Villa Venice Concerts, but a 'mock'-show put together from the best of all of the 14 show put on in Chicago in 1962. Not to say that it is not entertaining, it is, but much of the comedy is taken out so that it can run in the given time of 68 minutes. If you want a much better CD of the Villa Venice concerts, go with 'The Summit In Concert' 24kt Gold CD, it has much more of the now legendary comedy. The DVD, however, is worth the price of the set by itself. It is the video version of the only video taped performance of the Summit. It was a Dismas House Charity benefit recorded at the Kiel Opera House in St. Louis Missouri on June 20, 1965. Johnny Carson also stars as host. The Track list for the DVD is as follows: DEAN MARTIN 1.Johnny Carson Monologue 2.Send Me The Pillow You Dream On 3.King Of The Road 4.Everybody Loves Somebody 5.Medley:Volare/On An Evening In Roma 6.You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You SAMMY DAVIS JR. 7.My Shining Hour 8.Who Can I Turn To(When Nobody Needs Me) 9.I've Got You Under My Skin 10. You Came A Long Way From St. Louis 11.You Are My Sunshine 12.Bee-Bom 13.One For My Baby (Impressions) FRANK SINATRA 14.Get Me To The Church On Time 15.Fly Me To The Moon 16.Luck Be A Lady 17.I Only Have Eyes For You 18.I've Got You Under My Skin 19.Please Be Kind 20.You Make Me Feel So Young 21.My Kind Of Town (St. Louis Is) THE RAT PACK 22.Happy Birthday 23.Impressions/Birth Of The Blues The show is really incredible. The Count Basie Band backs up The Rat Pack and also put out a really swingin perfomance. If you are someone who really enjoys The Rat Pack, or if you just enjoy being entertained by three of the biggest stars of all time, this is THE set for you!!!!
