Open your mouth and close your eyes." Holly Mann finds herself making big bucks and slowly achieving her dream of becoming an entrepreneur step by step. It all started with a simple social studies business project. Holly, her best friend Beth Tipton, and Beth's brother, Gary are brainstorming ideas when Holly comes up with an idea so unorthodox that it just might work. What would happen if you combined the food you hated with your favorite dessert? And so HJ's, otherwise known as Healthy Junk snacks is born. Some people think liver is good for you, and some think cookies are bad for you. But what if you combined the two? Beth's most hated food and favorite dessert becomes the wild new recipe for HJ's. And so, the group finds themselves spending their allowance on chicken liver and cookie mix to make the first recipe for HJ's, Liver Cookies. After several attempts to get the cookies to the point of perfection, it's a success. There's no funky aftertaste and the liver isn't visible at all. Holly's unsuspecting dad and Beth's naïve brother Brian become the official "taste testers" for HJ's. However, what is a time of hope quickly turns into a time of despair. It's too expensive to rent out a place to set up HJ's in town, so they have nowhere to go. After a little more thinking and a talk with the principal, Holly, Beth, and Gary secure a spot in the school cafeteria. But who would want to spend their money on Liver Cookies? Holly, Beth, and Gary change the cookie's name to L Cookies. The group is anxious though. Will the kids be able to identify a difference between L Cookies and regular cookies? All these frets and worries are soon forgotten. Kids scarf down L Cookies, oblivious to the secret ingredient, and the money rolls in. The threesome end up baking L Cookies every spare second, or brainstorming more recipe ideas for HJ's. As Quick Tomato Pie (QT Pie), Tuna Shakes (T Shakes), Broccoli Cola (B Cola), Okra Fudge (O Fudge), and Pea Pudding (P Pudding) are introduced to the HJ's menu, kids buy more and more. However is seems that Holly's dream is about to be shattered like glass when her mother flies in for Christmas from L.A.. It seems like a harmless visit until her mother proposes the idea for Holly and her dad to move back home to L.A. with her. Holly would lose everything she'd strived so hard for since she'd moved to Ketchikan, Alaska after her parents split up for their jobs. Find out what happens to Holly in this great novel! It was such a fun book to rad and while it did take some time to get into, it was very rewarding! I know it does not show the cover here but the cover art is also very cool and caught my eye, and made me want to read it. It had a picture of Holly, Gary, and Beth with their new Liver Cookies. Really great book, give it a try you'll be pleasantly surprised! PLEASE RATE THIS REVIEW!!!! :)thx
