Commander Max Gunnarsson. Lieutenant Jennifer Escalante: two very similar people with very different ideas of what's right and what's wrong.
When Max appropriates military technology to perform his own illegal test of humanity's newly-acquired knowledge of faster-than-light travel, Jennie is part of a team of naval officers sent to bring him back to face charges of treason.
After landing on Earth, the dead planet of their ancestors, Max and Jennie are whisked away to a savage, future world, where Viking-like lycans rule the day, and rotting vampires own the night.
And they've been dropped right in the middle of it all.
But that's the least of their worries. They learn there's an alien fleet of death on its way to their own planet, and their ability to survive in this brutal, medieval world will be key in preventing the annihilation of the human race.
"Lives of Future-Past" is the first installment in The Prīmulī Prophecies, a sci-fi/fantasy series created by author Steve Benton. With elements of science, magic, supernatural beings and time travel, this all-new combined take on familiar subjects appeals to fantasy fans, gamers, manga-heads, sci-fi freaks and lovers of everything lycan (we're not so sure about vampire lovers, because vamps are really nasty, horrible smelly creatures in this universe). And yes, there's also a ton of romance.
The people of Max and Jennie's home world are a combination of Americans, Australians, Swiss, Peruvians, Chileans and Argentinians, with the aforementioned pair being of Argentine extraction, and known as degos. The English language has been peppered with Spanish and German words, and on purpose by the author, as he is fluent in both English and Spanish (and speaks some German). He also has homes in both North and South America, and has traveled extensively throughout the world (all descriptions of Lima, Peru and in Machu Picchu come from his personal experiences there). Components of online video games, such as a standard levels meter (strength, health, stamina) is part of a lycan's peripheral vision, and Max is limited by a skills timeout much like one encounters in any magic-based MMORPG. This adds a vulnerability to the protagonist and balances out his awesome, developing powers.
The series also provides a unique lexicon, utilizing not only the aforementioned Spanish and German languages, but also substantial amounts of Latin, mostly used in performing magical spells, called "cantuses".

A fantastic Sci Fi adventure with plenty of humor. First of three books and a cliffhanger ending but all three are FREE as is the BOXED SET TRILOGY! Could use a bit of editing but is still the best read I've had in a long time. - MLS
There will be more books. I am currently shopping LILI G AND THE SECRET VAMPIRES (12-14) to lit agents and publishing houses. It documents the adventures of the Gunnarssons' adopted daughter Liliana, as she attends Max's secondary school on Azul. So... well, you know Lili. Imagine her with the Williams twins, snotty, inactive vampire students and some activated vamps to boot! Next on the list for Max and Jennie is "METATRON'S CUBE", a time travel adventure. Max and Jennie are given their first mission as Prīmulī, and they have to hunt down Edmund, the apprentice of Merlin (of King Arthur's Court), who has unfortunately found the powerful magic-enabled object. This allows Edmund to travel through time, where he unwittingly changes history. Max and Jennie not only have to find him, but they have to clean up his messes in the order they were created. To make it worse, Jennie still doesn't have her ghanlo. So, MLS, please do not fret. More is on the way. And yes, you are right - the books need some editing :) P.S. I put 5 stars so it wouldn't mess with your awesome rating!
