Overview

Audrey MacDougall's new boss is cleaning house and to make matters worse, he is a "person of interest" in the mysterious disappearance of a young girl 20 years ago. Greg Ellison offers Audrey a chance to break away and start over, but what is it about Greg that pulls her out of the real world and inside a painting with him?

While on a business trip to Scotland, Audrey receives news that her company has been taken over by a ruthless businessman, famous for the way he downsizes his acquisitions. With some sight-seeing days built into her trip, she meets Greg, an American photographer also traveling on business, and decides she might as well make the most of what could be her last vacation. When Greg holds her hand, orphaned Audrey's overdeveloped sense of intuition fills her with a sense of home and family.

Audrey takes a day off with her best friend, Cinda, to go venue shopping for Cinda's wedding. After three unsuccessful stops at wedding sites, Audrey feels a connection with the last place on their list. It isn't until after she realizes that this is the B&B that Greg is hoping to buy that she sees the backyard-the inspiration for the unusual painting hanging on her living room wall.

About the Author

Thanks for stopping by. I'm Karla Brandenburg, I'm married, and had the privilege of raising two children. Now I get to enjoy grandchildren. My assistant is an orange tabby, lovingly referred to as "the blonde cat."
Raised on the gothic romances of Victoria Holt, I also enjoyed reading Stephen King and Rod Serling, which influences bring supernatural elements into the contemporary romances that I write. I'm a card-carrying cookie-holic and while I don't like coffee as a rule, I do like all those fun flavors you can get in the individual serving pods. When I'm not at home in Illinois (where I've lived all of my life in various of Chicago's suburbs) I enjoy travel, and yes, I've been to all the places I've written about.

A chance meeting on a train...or was it? A painting that holds visions...of love or insanity? A necklace...is it the secret to her future or the answer to a missing girl two decades past? Heart sore Audrey MacDougall, a PR event planner, meets the tall and handsome Greg Ellison, a freelance photographer, on a train from Manchester, England to Inverness, Scotland. Both are from suburbia Chicago, Illinois traveling on business, but the similarity does not end there. He approaches her with a familiarity that seems to have transcended time, and she feels it too. But even her exceptional intuition will not explain the mysterious landscape painting that arrived upon her arrival home. When she touches it she is enters the three dimensional world of the painting, and Greg is waiting for her, wanting her as much as she has wanted him. In real life, when he does see her, the feelings are strong and heated followed by unexplained periods of absence. With the interference of her over-exuberant best friend and neighbor, Cynda, some signals are crossed that deter the progress of their romance. While on her trip her new boss, the pompous Braden Templeton, does a hostile takeover of Jefferson Jones and she is in constant turmoil waiting for her pink slip. Meanwhile, he is showing interest in the necklace she wears, and so is Cynda's fiancee' Evan, who breaks into her home in search of it. Templeton is also very interested in the B&B Audrey and Greg are purchasing. He has her followed. Cold case detective Forbes is watching Audrey and the necklace also. He is waiting for Templeton to make a mistake that will implicate him in the 20 year old case of a missing girl. I read this well written book in one sitting on a Saturday morning. Our author presents us with a well constructed quilt that puts together pieces you would not expect, but present a beautiful piece of work. Intrigue, time travel, mystery and romance and some dreams fulfilled for a cast of delightful characters. I am so pleased to be introduced to Karla Brandenburg.

Not normally a fan of paranormal, but the author manages to keep it subtle enough so that I was willing to accept that this could be happening in the world I inhabit. An excellent blend of romance and mystery. Audrey's never considered herself a family person, so when she finds out Greg comes with kids, she's not sure she's willing to pursue a relationship, no matter what her heart is telling her.

A little romance, a little travel, and a little magic to bring the two characters together. I loved it.
