The best book to learn what the body has to do to process carbs and sugars. Lost 20 lbs in 5 weeks. I understand what is happening with fat cells and sugars.

I have never read a book with so much detail as to your health, foods you should not eat and why. It scared me so bad that I was dressed and out the door before daylight to buy foods we need to eat. It is explained so that you don't have to read it twice. You'll get the message. Anybody that doesn't comply is not wanting to live a long, healthy life. Just sayin...

After telling me I was a woman who had all the risk factors for heart disease at 40, my doctor recommended the South Beach Diet. After reading that book and starting a low carb diet, I read this Jonny Bowden book and became much better educated about low-carb eating and how carbohydrates affect my body. Living the Low Carb Life explained in a very easy-to-read style the reasons behind my carb addictions. Because of this book, I have been able to make well-informed decisions about what to eat and why it makes a difference to my weight. In four months I've lost almost 30 pounds and my triglycerides have gone from 440 to 88. It's been pretty darn easy and I'm impressed!

Wow, what a great book this is. It explains more than you will ever need to know about the low-carb dieting. Myths about them, how they really work, over a dozen plans explained and rated, and et cetera. It really helped me get a handle on it all and I highly recommend it if you are deciding on doing low-carb, or if you are doing low carb deiting. Excellent!

It fits anybody's reading interest and scope: You can easily understand Endocrinology 101 - a must for anybody faced with diabetes. This is the must have book for anyone who is either considering a controlled carbohydrate eating plan or for those who are veteran 'low Carbers.' Jonny Bowden provides historical facts and clinical information in both an enjoyable and easily understandable way. Having read many books on this subject, and just about all of the books which the address the eating plans he reviews in his book, from Neanderthin to The Schwarzbein Principle, I would say his reviews and insights into the many controlled carbohydrate eating plans now available, is invaluable, and allows the reader to find the 'diet plan' that fits them best. This book should be assigned reading for every Registered Dietician in America. I personally want to thank him for the phrase ¿controlled carbohydrate.¿ In the past when I spoke the words ¿low carb diet,' people looked at me as if I had uttered a profanity. Now, when I tell them that I am on a controlled carbohydrate diet, they want to know more. Living the Low Carb Life is definitely a book that I can¿t live without. Bravo, Jonny Bowden!

This guy clearly knows his stuff, and is able to explain it so that you will, too. Up-to-the-minute research in nutrition explained. And he's really funny; there are times I laughed out loud. All in all, a treasure. Best -- I'm losing weight and I feel incredible!

Jonny Bowden really explains the science behind low-carb diets in a way that makes sense. I'm not even on a low-carb diet but I found the information fascinating. It provided guidance for customizing my plan and gave original strategies for overcoming common obstacles such as plateaus, cravings, and low motivation. He devoted an entire chapter to the analysis of 14 popular and some not-so-popular low-carb diets including: The South Beach Diet, The Atkins Diet, Somersizing, and The Zone. He gave a description of each, the pros and cons, and then described what kind of person would do well on each one. I can tell that he actually took the time to learn about each diet, not just forming opinions based off of what he 'thought' the diet was all about. Living The Low-Carb Life will help put you in control of making decisions that work for your lifestyle. Jonny also, and I was surprised by this, includes a section about prescription diet pills. He includes an entire discussion, not just a one-liner demonizing all diet pills. He actually discusses individual pills that may be prescribed by doctors and describes how they work. He doesn't gloss over the topic and write the whole category off as 'bad.' Definitely a great find.

I bought this one cause I was so sick of hearing something different every night on the news and this book promised to help me sort out fact from fiction. It keeps its promise. I showed it to my doctor too and she wound up recommending it to one of her patients.

I heard this guy on the radio and it made me buy the book and I'm really glad I did. It saved me a lot of money and time. It's really interesting to compare the diets and see where they disagree and what they have in common, and I especially liked the way he puts it all together and helps you design your own. That's what works best for me.
