This is Lizzie’s story, told by her in 1979 in her ninety fifth year, as she looks back at her youth in Ireland, her journey to Canada, and her life on the prairie.

Born into a Protestant farming family in a troubled Ireland in the late 19th Century, Lizzie Monson was the oldest of twelve children, ten of them girls. With no work, no eligible husbands, and no chance of inheriting the family farm, she and one of her sisters answered the call to go homesteading in Canada. There they married two brothers. They registered for homesteads in Saskatchewan and started a new life on the prairie with all the hardships that the elements and life could throw at them.

Lizzie is an historical novel, based on true biographical events from the author’s researched family history.
