Charles Ritter, a Rhode Island professor, is forced to either have his class removed or restructure the course on maritime history to appeal to a broader crowd. This means he will have to temporarily move to a small coastal town in Maine to learn the lobster trade. He is hesitant, but desperate to maintain his position at the university, so he agrees. He is directed to his lobster fishing instructor; a burly, despicable man who mistreats his family and engages in some surprising atrocities. There is a pirate's treasure to be found, but to find it, murder is part of the job! It is up to Charles to discover the small town's secrets and unfold the mystery. He is trapped in a community that won't accept him, so what can he do? Once you believe the story is over, you will discover the unexpected ending (or endings!).
