Audience: This book is written for long term care staff who are responsible for completing portions of the MDS. Additionally, this guide provides a description of staff roles (i.e., nurse's aide, licensed nurses and physician's) in relation to the MDS and providing supportive documentation to support Medicare payment. The publisher, HCPro, provides many supplemental materials for long term care specifically Medicare and PPS.

Staff roles in relation to documentation are provided as well as tips for completion of the MDS. This pocket guide provides a guide to completion of specific MDS items as well as a cross-checker between MDS items and criteria for Medicare qualifiers. This guide is specific to the MDS and PPS and is not considered as a clinical guide. There are no instructions for use, so the user should be knowledgeable of MDS and PPS language in order to use this guide successfully.
Assessment: This quick reference guide is usable for staff completing the MDS for PPS purposes. The pocket size makes it easy to carry while conducting chart review as well as resident interviews. The information is easy to read and easy to follow.
