What a surprise this story was for me. A beautiful story about a young girl, Cassie Marvin. I was taken along a journey that actually was a lot like my mother's when she was younger. Cassie's story reached out and touched my heart. A good read for anyone.

I do not usually leave reviews but this story resonated in my heart days after I finished, so I must say something. Cassie Marvin is a young girl with a no good mother in my opinion. Her father is not much better. Even though that subject is in the background of this story, the rest of the story is beautiful. Cassie sees beauty in the most simple things, that touched my heart. She showed me a few things while reading and that is very rare in any of the books that I read. This is a simply written book but the words are powerful. When I put down a book and it stays with me for days I am impressed.

I was given this book as a gift and I just loved the story. Cassie is a young girl practically raising herself. It is hard to like her parents but you fall in love with her. She meets, Mrs. Vashon who has a beautiful garden and is invited in. What takes place in this story from then on touched my heart in a way most books don't. My emotions went all over the place. At the end of the book I felt like I had to forgive one of the characters. So real to me. Am going to recommend this to my book club. There is a Reader's Guide at the back of the book, for good reason too, this would be a great story to discuss.
