About the Author

Joanne Vruno was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe), to very adventurous parents who were missionaries at the time. She spent her childhood in Maplewood, Minnesota, houses away from Battle Creek Regional Park. Her childhood introduced her to a love of nature by exploring and hiking the woods, camping with her family, and gardening. Today Joanne lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, with her husband and the youngest of her three children It isn't unusual to find her working in her yard, walking her dog, or having a picnic while spoiling her four grandchildren.

Joanne Vruno transports the reader to another world, in her debut novel, Loon Child. She takes you straight into the life of Tom Jackson in his small town. Loon Child is not only a good mystery but it is also entertaining and funny at times. I loved learning more about Native American Culture. The entire book is set in Wisconsin and Minnesota and it thrilled me to see the names of schools, candy shops, hotels and bars that I know well. Everyone should read this book! Cannot wait to read what Joanne Vruno comes up with next.

I read this book, thoroughly enjoyed it, and recommend it for others to read. Not only is it a good mystery, but I learned so much about Native American Culture. So much of this is based in Wisconsin and Minnesota which was fun to see, living in Minnesota myself.

This book was a great read for me up at the lake. It captured the sounds and feelings of the north woods and told a incredible story of a man healing while helping a lost child. The author does a great job of articulating the pain of losing loved ones while finding hope and new joys in the future. Whether you are a regular of the cabin lifestyle or just want to have a literary vacation I would highly recommend this heartwarming book.
