Charging down the Gullah coast, his Keds pumping and his cigar puffing like a steam engine comes Lord Baltimore, the enigmatic title character of Stephen Doster's debut novel. Lord Baltimore's appearance on a nearly deserted road is quite a shock to the novel's hero, young Ensworth Harding, who has already had a rough day. Ensworth has been plucked from his comfortable country club and deposited in the middle of nowhere by his father, who has given him only a backpack filled with supplies, a letter to deliver to Savannah, and an admonition: "See that open road... Your destiny lies down there."

Lord Baltimore is one of the best southern novels I have ever read. Stephen weaves a believable story of growing up and living an adventure.  I wanted to see a sequel! Bravo! JeanieL

Didn't want to put it down. Makes you hope to find modern day Knight Errants. Such a wonderful adventure.

This was certianly a book I could not put down! The rich history and culture of the Georgia Coast comes alive and the reader is swept up and carried to the action as if on a wave. In some places, I audibly gasped as the excitment climaxed. One really cheers the main character on, in hopes he will succeed in his coming-of-age journey. Excellant read!!!!
