The Art of Survival Chapter 2- Kristen's POV I nod silently, and slam a foot on the brakes. The car skids to a halt, and I pick up my baseball bat. "Wait here." I tell Griffin firmly. Before he can protest, I am sprinting towards the mass of huntlings that surround a young boy. I allow everything to blur. My bat strikes a huntling, then another and another. Soon, all have fallen. Some take multiple swings, a stab, or a kick. But in the end, they are all done for. I turn to the boy. "Come on. Your brother's in the car." My voice is even. He follows me to the car without much hesitation. I hop back into the driver's seat, and Griffin's brother slides into the back. The two look almost exactly alike- messy, dark hair and bright hazel eyes. But where Griffin's face has a natural somber, almost brooding look- and it's really pretty cute- his brother has a cheerful, radiant face that has a happy glow despite the fact that he was almost eaten alive. "Hunter, this is Kristen." Griffin addresses his brother. He says nothing of my sister's name, Lucy. I had told him it was my name. When I had lost my sister and realized it would take time and help- two things I hadn't had- I had taken to calling myself Lucy, in a sense. I refuse to be called that, but say the name belongs to me. It honors Lucy, somehow. But I'll have to tell them the truth at some point. "Hi, Hunter." I glance at him in the rearview mirror. "Hey." He mumbles. The boy turns to look out the window. "Where are we going?" Griffin asks me. "My current home." I reply vaguely, and offer no furrther explanation. After a long, silent drive, we reach the vacant building a few friends and I had taken over. I pull into the open garage and shut off the car. Stuffing the keys in my pocket, I climb out and shut the door. Griffin and Hunter follow me into the house. "Autumn? Gabriel? David?" I call. "It's Kristen. I have two people with me." A tall, thin girl with extremely dark skin and very long black hair slips in. Her dark eyes move quickly from Griffin to Hunter, then settle on me. "They are safe?" I nod. "Yup." Gabriel and David reveal themselves, too. Gabriel is Hispanic, with dark eyes and hair and olive skin. He has an attractive face and a muscular build. David, on the other hand, has golden-brown hair and green eyes. He's skinny and very boyish-looking. "Hey. Welcome, guys!" Gabriel claps Griffin and Hunter each on the back. The brothers greet him quietly. I see Hunter's eyes dart nervously to Autumn's glinting knife. "Okay, so I'll show the new guys where they'll be staying." I say quickly, and lead them upstairs. "You guys see if you see anything outside!" I show them to two rooms across the hall from each other. They look a little afraid, and I hurry to reassure them. "If there's absolutely anything you're uncomfortable about, let me know." I say. "You won't be seeing me and Autumn, like, leaving the shower in towels or anything. This is the guys' zone. The girls' wing is across the building. If you don't want to see us getting dressed or anything, don't go over there. And no, we're not, like, changing together. That's weird. Just a heads-up. And, please don't run off if you don't like it here. Runners never survive. Just let me know and I'll drive you someplace else." They nod and drift into their rooms. I turn on my heel and jog to the girls' wing. Runners never survive... Or do they? Could my sister?
